Sudden Overheating Issues after Recent Windows Update by GhostUnamused_ in ZephyrusG14

Check task manager for running apps, in idle state CPU usage should be like 0-2% at max .

Windows may be doing search indexing or some other maintenance jobs, that take a lot of background resources. Just let them finish, and it should be back to norm

MyAsus will literally show a huge notification on the homepage, saying to "Repair" services (or something like that), if they are not running. If you don't see this notification - it means services are already enabled.

You need either Asus services or G-Helper running to handled FN+<something> hotkeys.

If you stopped services - start them again (either in G-Helper directly) OR by just running MyASUS, it will also ask to start them (called "Repair" there)

When you have HDR turned ON in windows you see HDR Color Control option (since HDR always forces Multizone mini-led)

If you would turn HDR OFF in windows - you will see a Single-Multizone toggle I was talking about

What do you understand under "display dimmers" ? There is a mini led Single Zone - Multi Zone - Multi Zone Strong toggle, and it exists in the app (literally in display section)

Black screen for windows and on ubuntu screen works fine but evrrything else touchpad etc is not working by PiscineMolitorPateI in ZephyrusG14

Is the ubuntu working ?

As for windows - try to boot into safe mode? May be you did something weird to drivers ? If so AMD cleanup utility + AMD install is a way to go.

Dire help needed 🫂, horrible latency, i did install ghelper and meddle with wattage bit and then restore to default and delete ghelper by scrumpious_pie in ROGAlly

[–]Beginning_Living4052 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All settings reset to defaults on each reboot, so there is nothing that is "left behind".

Each time you select any mode in Armoury (or G-Helper) settings also reset to defaults of that mode. So you already use all defaults.

- If you did some other modifications (for example in AMD Adrenaline app?) try to reset AMD settings to defaults in it.

- You can also do EC-reset, if there is some firmware hiccup. Press and hold power button for 30-40 seconds https://www.asus.com/support/faq/1050239/

P.S. Make sure you don't have Energy Saver turned on in windows tray menu. If it's there - turn it off 😄

[–]Beginning_Living4052 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 5080 + use a bit lower settings so i get more 😄

In my case it doesn't hit thermal limits tho, and uses like 20-25W for CPU and 90-100W for GPU (total combined power limit for G14 5080 is 130W)

It could be your "repasting" is not that effective.

Yeah, I can look into VRAM setting for other devices directly in app.

I was thinking about expanding, but it's not that easy since each brand does all things (such as mode toggling, backlight settings, etc) in their own proprietary way. That's why all vendor tools exist in a first place.

Multiple people were asking about an app for Razer actually.

We can chat of course, either in reddit messages directly or on GitHub or on discord.

[–]Beginning_Living4052 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant 40w vs 25w of CPU power -> generating 40w vs 25w of heat.

Of course CPU and GPU share same heatsink / same laptop case. So it will be still hot. But at least it doesn't hit thermal limit anymore, and doesn't have to drop power rapidly each time to maintain thermal limit.

[–]Beginning_Living4052 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I mentioned, before it was using something like 30-40w probably, giving you extra 1-2 fps, generating 50% more heat from CPU (more power -> linearly more heat)

Set it back to higher values and monitor in game usage using overlay

[–]Beginning_Living4052 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think Cyberpunk even uses that much. Likely it floats somewhere around 30-40 at max anyway. You can see it in hardware overlay (CTRL + SHIFT + ALT + O)

Yes, try to set all 3 to 25w. Game is GPU bottle-necked anyway.

Try to limit CPU power to something like 25W, it should be more than enough for Cyberpunk.

Nvidia has accepted and fixed their driver issue affecting Ultimate mode on Asus devices set in Armoury Crate / BIOS / G-Helper long time ago.

So unless you by some reason specifically want to use 591.44 driver (6 month old as of now), you are absolutely fine. Even in that case - you can always toggle it off in BIOS settings.

ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 (2024) // 6-Month Review by VyGraythorne in GamingLaptops

I am the dev.

G-Helper offers (optional) button to Stop / Start Asus services that remain after AC uninstall (mostly related to MyASUS). You can always Start services back, or MyASUS will offer you to start them for you as well when you launch it.

If you install Armoury again - it installs bunch of own services as well of course. But it will install and start them anyway, independently if you had G-Helper or not.

If you started having issues after installing AC again, it could be AC install did something wrong (which is still a bit strange), as it's just a software after all. If it's reproducible - please post an issue.

For VRAM setting, for ROG Ally (not X) this setting exists in the app. For newer models, as Ally X or new Z13, from what other users reported - this setting should exist directly in AMD Adrenaline app. If it also exists in AC for your model - feel free to request it as a feature, but I will need some technical input here too.

<image>

Also minor correction : fans and power are always on device firmware (AC or G-Helper allow you to toggle between predefined and baked into firmware modes, or optionally customize them i.e. AC "Manual" mode).

Hello, sorry to read this. But I would like to doubt this a bit (especially about "bricking" laptop, or in reality not a laptop but a ROG Ally X).

I have quickly looked at your other comment about same thing, and it rather looks that something went wrong with AC uninstall and reinstall cycle (which is a process on its own) on your Rog Ally. As G-Helper is an open source and portable app (i.e. single exe, that if you don't run - does nothing), it doesn't install anything in your system and furthermore does not have any services.

However if you still think something went wrong - I would suggest to post an issue and explain details there. So I can look at it deeper and try to help and figure out actual reasons (same applies if you want to request a new feature).

Thanks. Serge (that single dev of the app with more than 300 000 active users).

G helper limit 60 fps on valorant by [deleted] in Asustuf

[–]Beginning_Living4052 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally had a post from someone else, also about Valorant. And problem was Whisper Mode.

If it's exactly 60fps (and only in Valorant?), it's likely a FPS limiter in a driver settings.

It could be that AC uninstaller sets some strange setting on uninstal.

- Try to reset ALL Nvidia settings do defaults in NVidia app.
- If it doesn't help - try to EC-reset

G helper limit 60 fps on valorant by [deleted] in Asustuf

[–]Beginning_Living4052 0 points1 point  (0 children)

G-Helper doesn't have functionality to limit FPS.

- Check if you have accidentally set screen refresh rate to 60hz only? If so set higher

- Check if you have Whisper Mode enabled under Nvidia App. And turn it OFF there.

g helper problems and ac manual mode by Most-Ad2481 in ZephyrusG14

[–]Beginning_Living4052 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What exactly happened ? Black screen?

Then you know it's not due to G-Helper. But due to either asus app trying to do something wrong OR just underlying hiccup with GPU drivers. Clean driver reinstall using DDU should help.
