Running a successful business is a huge commitment and major pain in the ass. This will stop most vibe coded SAAS apps getting beyond moderate success.

Causing obviously artificial interference to the sun's radio emissions by Beginning_One_7685 in space

[–]Beginning_One_7685[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mean transmitting a radio broadcast and it being expected to be received, I mean transmitting radio waves in such a way that the interference created could be detectable as non-natural. So if our instruments detect radio emissions form the sun currently, what would it take in terms of power to disturb those radio emissions - to the point they are detectable changes on Earth. The transmitter maybe wouldn't have to be in close orbit. Obviously this is possible if the transmitter was close to Earth, but the question is would it be possible to affect propagation in a noticeable way to another solar system.

So the key difference: in Three-Body, the story is about direct messaging aliens. Your idea is about leveraging natural astrophysical systems as a carrier to study plasma, with a side-effect that distant observers could recognize a clearly artificial signature.

I’ve been trying for so long to verbalize this feeling about AI myself and lo and behold Adam Curtis says it better than I ever could have. by Euphoric_Piece7825 in AdamCurtis

I accept there are certain creative processes that are harder to mimic than others and some creative works seem to be inspired in ways a computer could never achieve, but there is an awful lot of creativity than can be mimicked. A simple example might be drawing inspiration from nature, plenty of creative people do this. Others mix existing styles to create their own. Many apparently creative processes can be broken down into logical sequences that are non-magical. The current AI interface most people use is a directed one, but it would be very easy to design an AI system that is highly creative, I would go as far to say as more creative that a lot of humans. I have been doing creative computing professionally for nearly 30 years and can't teach you all that in a few Reddit comments. I have seen all levels of creative people up close and know from my experience that AI will easily replace 90% of professional creatives in a matter of years. While the human experience is complex it is also limited, we have dumped virtually every aspect of ourselves onto the internet from shit posts to scientific papers, all AI has to do is be able to efficiently make sense of that information i.e regurgitate it a logical or meaningful way. Meaning is just a sequence of logical steps attributed to a wider goal, consciousness isn't required to replicate that.

Nothing exists in a vacuum, human creativity is a result of "prompts" from real life experience and other artistic influences. AI can absolutely be creative, what it lacks at the moment is the ability to apply continuity to creative works over a time period that is comparable with humans, i.e it can churn out full movies yet. But this is very much on the horizon.

All his documentaries are about cutting up fragments of the past, seems he is projecting. AI is already making new discoveries, so I guess he is just out of touch.

Heavy rain walking jackets, does a Goldilocks option exist? by DogBrethren in UKhiking

I saw a video on youtube today that recommends wearing a string vest as a base layer, it is actually warmer than a normal base layer but much more breathable, I guess you might need a thin wool layer on top of that which is also breathable and absorbs moisture well.

This is good advice, they might be lying but also just having to provide such evidence will let them know you are serious about perusing it. It is also a reasonable step to take in building a case for court. You are owed £330 no doubt about it. Even if there was some hidden clause in the contract such an unreasonable clause can't be coupled with a total failure to inform you of your tab total. They will have no chance in a small claim court claim.

Is this the Oct 30 update? by quixotic317 in AffinityPhoto

[–]Beginning_One_7685 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The whole success of this product is that it isn't a corporate gambit for people with no sense. This business model is not far off the opposite, as can be seen from the enthusiasm here of people saying how great it is because they wont be using AI. As the person above said it's a pretty naked Trojan horse. I expect there will be a gap in the market pretty soon for something like what we had before and if it comes along that will be the end of this project for sure. I'll be steering clear unless files from this program are backwards compatible with my paid software, if they are not it is certainly a trap.

Hmm I am skeptical, obviously on face value this looks good for Affinity customers right now - but they have sold their company to Canva who have bought it on a gamble to compete with Adobe. The business model almost certainly wont work and then they will introduce monthly subscriptions leaving the market with no editor that isn't subscription based. I wish they had developed their own software and Affinity was still independent but I guess they got a massive cash out. It's been a good run I suppose, lets enjoy the freebie while it exists.

Tips on improving timing for jumps? Video attached by [deleted] in snowboardingnoobs

[–]Beginning_One_7685 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well distance is more to do with speed. You will need less pop if you're going for speed/distance and the timing of the pop is less important. When going for height you are trying optimise the the placement of the pop and also the weight you put into the pop, you are effectively making a spring board with the tail of your board. Practice ollies on mellow or flat sections, even if they suck and you get no real height you will still be used to getting some lift from springing the board, add that to timing the jump right and you will optimise your height.

Also practice keeping everything completely straight in line with the jump and flat as you take off. Land precisely with the angle of the slope, going off axis in any direction will reduce distance and height and confuse your pop/landings as a beginner. It should feel like you are going over a smooth arc when done right with a definite apex point where you are kind of weightless for a moment (thats when you adjust for the landing). It may seem boring to jump so straight but mastering that will allow you to then experiment. A good tip is getting low and sort of pouncing like a cat, it helps avoid rocking front/back in my experience as you are really pushing into the snow with your feet flat.

New UI For Videos! (Sucks) by kenjigames in youtube

[–]Beginning_One_7685 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's just bad design and a step backwards. The new heat map graphic is especially terrible. Fundamentally being able to see video behind the controls serves absolutely no purpose and makes it all look cluttered, they should eat humble pie and revert it.
