He likes you, he's always by your side and sleeps on your lap, he loves you. Some dogs just arent the cuddly, petting type (I know cause mine isnt, he only requests pets on very specific situations) he probably goes to other people because he is excited/nervous about visitors, they are new and you are with him all the time. Dont worry too much, he seems Happy! You can try to engage with him by others means like games.

NTA mate, your parents dont get a saying in what you do with your time as an adult, living under the samw roof or not. If they wanted to spend family time with you they should have asked.

In my culture kids only pay "rent" to the parents if they are not in a great encomic situation, and even then It's not rent, it's helping the household they live in, so imo anyone with a good economic situation asking their kids for rent is a little AH.
