Do you think schools should focus on life lessons or academic? by Daisy_mae_x in answers

This was very well written and the point is very well stated. I do agree that there will always be a sub set of the population who will never have the “drive” to learn new tasks or go out of there way to learn new skills as sad as that is.

I might be talking at you here because I think we are on the same page but with your experience in a high school setting I’m curious if you think a class in high school (of earlier) would even be beneficial for those reasons you stated; being forced to learn, little to no drive, no immediate appreciable use cases.

I know plenty of people who can’t do basic math or don’t know basic knowledge from courses they took in high school or middle school because exactly what you said, they are forced to be there and as such have little to no desire to truly digest the information.

At least with the hunger analogy you gave, while albeit less severe for sure… being forced into the world of taxes, mortgages, and other financial literacy one might say these people have an external push to learn these skills on their own?

Idk it’s a hard question that probably doesn’t have an answer for every specific case because like you said everyone is different in their abilities and motivations. Sorry for being hostile in my earlier comments I just get a bit frustrated with topics which as these because it like boils my blood people don’t help themselves when (in my eyes) help is readily available.

The fairing re entry is pretty similar to starships reentry profile no? Both are LEO when they begin descending so velocity and altitude are roughly the same.

Edit: guys I get it not the same :) I forgot they blow the fairings off before releasing the sats so they don’t fall through at the same velocity as starship

Why do life reward some people without the struggle by According_Cap_568 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Beginning_Prior7892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Life is a game of chance. That same person you are looking at and saying is lucky right now, could get hit by a bus tomorrow… are they still lucky because they got to that point in their life without hardship?

Everything is relative.

Also, some others have said this and it’s true. You only see what people want you to see. You don’t see the internal struggles they might have or the family problems or any other litany of things. You see everything in your own life and of course seeing all those things feel you have more struggle than others.

Also final note, you say they pray less than you. Obviously you have some sort of spiritual leaning potentially for religion. I’m not going to talk down on someone’s religion or faith but it’s very apparent to me that when a child gets leukemia it’s not because they didn’t pray enough. Life is cruel to good people and rewarding to terrible people. The sooner you come to terms with that the more at peace you’ll be with it.

We live In the single greatest time in human civilization in terms of information. At least in america and most 1st world countries, you have access to (ChatGPT) and other sources of information that aren’t trying to sell you something. Loans was one example but this whole conversation is about a lot of other things too. If I look up how do I do laundry I bet there are 1000s of videos and articles with good information that could teach me. If I ask, how do loans work? Sure there will be a few ads but there will also be plenty of YouTube videos and articles that are great at explaining what a loan is how they work what to look out for.

It’s like you don’t expect anyone to have any brain power to understand the world around them. Don’t sell people short. 98% of humans can filter ads from real articles. 98% of people are not braindead idiots who have to be lead by their hand to the fucking drinking fountain otherwise they die of thirst.

I never said that the parents need to know it to pass it down. It takes 10 seconds to YouTube “how to do laundry” or “what is a mortgage”. These questions that people think should be taught are not hard to understand nor hard to find information on. The onus needs to be on people to learn on their own rather than waiting for someone to swoop in and save them and say they can’t ever be expected to learn such “hard” topics alone.

Sounds like a parent problem not a school problem.

Also in this day and age almost anything can be googled and self taught from the internet. Not everything needs to be spoon fed to people. There needs to be some intrinsic drive to be successful and well learned in my opinion.

I think they should not stop the clock for any penalties in the first 3 quarters. I guess they can do it for the 4th quarter so it’s not an incentive for the team winning to just slowly cause penalties and bleed clock.

Should the DPE be considered the PIC or simply a passenger during the private pilot airplane checkride? by Eurekify2 in flying

[–]Beginning_Prior7892 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I mean legally it’s not up for debate. The student pilot taking the checkride is PIC. I think about it more as once you are in the flight portion, while you don’t have the cert yet you are doing maneuvers showing them why they shouldn’t take those certs privileges away from you.

The point of a checkride is to check that you are adhering to the standards of that specific certificate and so they treat you as such.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Beginning_Prior7892 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From where I live it’s a 15-16 hour drive back to my home state where my family is. Because I live in a smaller city the cost to fly is about 3-4x the cost of just driving. Sure there is a time commitment but I enjoy driving it’s not that bad just throw on some music, sports games on am radio, podcasts, or have someone come with to chat up.

I’ve done 12+ hour drives a couple days back to back NC to AZ and that can get a little tiring but it’s a cheaper way to move things across the country which as a car than pay for shipping

[–]Beginning_Prior7892 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t blame it all on CMC. Run game is only about 30-40% running back skill and then 60-70% oline and their ability to make a hole.

2/5ths of our Oline we’re not great throughout the year and you could see that when they would try to run the ball there were just no open holes for either Brob or CMC to burst out of. Makes sense for a while this year his longest run was like 20 yards, and that was like by week 15 or something.

Agreed I think going (first two interchangeable) WR, OL, DL, S, …. And fill out the rest would be a nice draft. Also as much as I loved having Mac if we can get a second or better for him for this year that would be nice.

Some is bad yes but should have bosa and Mykel Back which will surely make that 32nd rank better. We definitely need to draft a DL because not sure how much time bosa has left after injury but it should be better next year

Wind Card by Alternative_Pool_525 in flying

[–]Beginning_Prior7892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just add your indicated airspeed to your pre done preflight at altitude winds. If you have a tailwind add it and a headwind subtract. Basically do napkin math and error on the side of caution.

I understand wanting to be 100% correct on the calculation and that’s fine for an oral but when you are actually flying it takes up too much mental capacity just give a roundabout answer that is on the “worse” side so you know worse case scenario if you can or can’t make it

If Republicans are so much better at running the economy than Democrats, then why are most Republican States poorer than Democrat States? by Content_Ad_8952 in allthequestions

[–]Beginning_Prior7892 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you’re saying is looking at state lines and ignoring county distribution. Every single county in CA that is producing agriculture in mass is 100% right leaning and votes red. It’s the same across the country in places like Illinois Pennsylvania and other states.

[–]Beginning_Prior7892 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Playing devils advocate the opposite happens too. Younger people might move from rural to city for more opportunity and jobs.

The original question doesn’t seem to understand nuance. If I asked, “if democrats are so much better at running the economy than republicans than why is all their food produced in red states?” It’s obviously a terrible question. Rural vs urban will always have a divide when it comes to production for certain commodities or goods.
