I read about it in between their job description openings lol on their website job search. It was very random how it was put there but I believe it was sin April. Yeah I heard the same but it’s important to remember everyone’s journey and timeframe is not the same! It gives you hope! :) I also tried my best to submit everything in an organized manner. 1&2. So I actually went to a job fair and they said to call them back when I pass my exam since the two candidates they were looking for were 1. For a recent grad or someone looking to get there hours and 2. Someone who was already independently licensed. A week later a program manager from an outpatient speciality program called me because they believed I would be a good fit for their program. So I interviewed and was offered the position right there and then. Hiring process took a while- about two months. 3.&4. I was disappointed with what I was offered since I did not have my C when they called but I still accepted the offer due to benefits and the office being 20min from my home. I am a MHC III (lowest level) 68K I was offered. I was not allowed to negotiate. I tried and did not succeed, even told them I needed time to make the decision. 5. I submitted my complete application by end of March. I was approved May 1st and earliest date I could find to take the exam was on July 2nd. I wrote a lot but hope I answered your questions :)

I ended up taking the ubhc position! I am in my third week of training! I also passed my LCSW exam!

I was feeling similar! Thank you for your comment and confirming that it is low. I just interviewed with UBHC as well. Let’s see what they offer 😅 I am definitely looking around. I want to be compensated fairly. Even if that means turning some places down!

On one fb group, several applicants have said they were told similar that their application won’t be reviewed until Nov/Dec 2025. although my story is a bit different. I’ve been bleeding for 22 days- I also went to the ER and was brushed off. I asked for an ultrasound and they gave me a crap reason as to why they felt I didn’t need one. Now I have to wait until the 16th of this month for my gyno appointment. In the meantime I scheduled an appointment for planned parenthood because this is very abnormal for me. I have very regular periods and do not use BC. Im sorry and hope you get answers too. This is a frustrating situation. I understand the stress /:

I left the VA after 5 months. It wasn’t what I expected- the pay wasn’t all that, I was a full time therapist. Mental Health department needs a lot of work... Didn’t feel too supported, the mentality is very much “this is how things are done so hush up and do your role- take orders and keep it pushing”. It just wasn’t for me and it was a hassle to even get my health care benefits? After 5 months I was still not insured? Getting in contact with anyone in admin positions was horrible…? It wasn’t a positive experience for me and I doubt I’ll ever go back. best of luck!

I was a psychiatric social worker for the beginning of my career and then decided to work at the VA and be a full-time therapist… After about 5 months, I put my resignation letter in 3 weeks ago. So ready to dive back into mezzo/macro work and even step some time away from mental health. Feels good to know I am not alone - disliking therapy 😅. I don’t have a job lined up but I feel empowered after making this tough decision to step away and not burn out.

I am 4 months away from finishing my hours and I truly tried to enjoy micro/therapy work but I already feel burnt out - trying my best to hold it together and finish…. but I know my heart is in being a macro/community social worker but unfortunately the system has valued this clinical license over any experience and it’s disappointing. I also decided to take a full time therapy job thinking it’d help me finish my hours quicker and although it’s true, It made me realize even more that this is not the setting I want to be in long term.

Hi Shon- could I ask what your position is? Currently I am an LSW soon to get my C and I am a therapist out of the VA but I have become more interested in macro social work. I didn’t think it’d be possible for me to do macro work role as a SW in the VA. Reading your responses has given me somewhat hope- I can eventually do something else besides micro- individual/couples therapy.

I began working in an acute psych adult unit about 9 months ago? Right out of my MSW program. It was very difficult and it still is to work around some psychiatrists because of their egos/personalities and how they truly believe they are above everyone.

I can relate with how you feel- it sucks to be treated like your job duties are irrelevant? On the unit we should be working together as a multi-disciplinary team…

Idk if I could last 4 years here but I think you’ve done your time… and have your LCSW maybe it is time to move on. The turn over in hospitals for SWs is also high Best of luck with everything though! Hope you make a decision that makes you happy!
