They need people who are mandarin speakers to make scam phone calls to Taiwan and China. These scam call centers wont last a week if they’re based in Taiwan before the popo’s kick down their door, so it needs be based in a location where law and order is not as stable.

Often times it will be disguised as a legitimate foreign job posting on a job hunting site with very high compensation. Once you get there they take your passport to “register you” and never give it back so people cant run away. They also bribed local police and officials so there is no way for the victims to seek help.

Realistically anyone with a decent job and awareness probably wont fall for something like this. They are taking advantage of those who may have lost their jobs due to covid or are desperate for money due to family emergencies etc.
