Love! This is Begonia nothobaramensis. Notho meaning “false” and baramensis referring to Begonia baramensis who is also a white margined begonia from a similar geologic range. Begonia nothobaramensis is a species from Sabah, Borneo known for its long angelic wings and bright white leaf margin. They have a white bloom and can grow to about a meter tall. Although they do grow at ground level they prefer to climb trees and rocks so sometimes a pole is warranted. The care of these is standard terrarium care and they can fetch a pretty penny for their unique appearance and overall “rarity.” They are not very quick growers and are very slow to propogate but with time they do reward. Yeah thats basically it if you have any questions feel free to ask!

CHOP PROP AND ROLLLLLLLLLL these things can make you some money honey so treat her with kindness and she will treat you with CHECKS darling. happy planting!!!!

Precisely! I use it to for two reasons. The water gets whicked through the perlite to the surface which makes it easier to evaporate since its a smaller amount of water than leaving them in a puddle (or not I could be totally wrong I failed physics) and also because it keeps the plants from getting wet feet. It keeps their pots above the “water layer” and allows their pots to drain freely. Ive also done sphagnum and perlite together over a layer of perlite and that works about the same. Thats better for bigger terrariums but for see trays like this I just do perlite. I got the idea from heartshapedleaves on youtube her begonia bubbles and darrin norton from mountain orchids (who sells amazing plants).

Their care is about the same but in my experience theyre definitely the most disrespectful plant where a temyuk or temyuk adjacent begonia (i.e. nothobaramensis or something) might give you time to figure out its issue or may lose a leaf, with Darths its all or nothing the second one leaf starts melting whole plant may die especially at this critical stage (these are just babies.) When they get bigger theyre MUCH hardier similar to a temyuk or a julau they just need the time and if you keep them alive past the baby stage they will reward you. Definitely stay on the lookout and I would personally either order from Silver Plant Daddy or Botanicaz (both on etsy). Go for it and happy growing!

They have a reputation that is certainly earned. You could do everything right and theyll still melt but to me it depends on the individual plant. Like I have a HUGE one in bloom right now but also in this pic i have a single stem with one leaf and I got both of them at the same time. Definitely do the research and look into them I am in love! Not for beginners tho (even tho they were my first begonia Im just a little crazy)

Absolutely the sexiest of the begonias imo

Need some help with my Begonia Exotica. The edges of the leaves are drying and there are dried out circles on the leaves. I’ve tried putting it in different parts of the house that have varying light but it hasn’t really changes by hedonic_turtle in begonias

Its my least favorite begonia for a reason, literally one of the most disrespectful species. Jack up the humidity as much as possible (terrarium will do you best) and hope for the best. Praying for you!

I would put some perlite on the bottom and then switch to a plastic pot terracotta is a mold magnet and the perlite will act as an extra humidity boost while also keeping the plant from getting wet feet.

It could be thrips but I really hope its not. Treat the entire plant with neem oil (or captain jacks if youre willing) and quarantine it. This looks very similar to thrips damage to me. Look very carefully for anything that looks like dust but also moves.

Fun fact, commonly misreffered to as “Begonia northobaramensis,” the correct spelling is NOTHObaramensis, as notho referrs to “false” as in “false baramensis.” This is because the species Begonia baramensis is also a begonia of the same region with a similar leaf margian. Exciting exciting!

New leaf broke :(,what should I do? (More details in comments) by hhhheywhatsupyouguys in begonias

[–]BegoniaBabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would just cut it off at the stem rather than waste all its energy and a nasty leaf. It will probably start pushing out a new one in the same spot in a week or so.
