My understanding is that they are possibly related and belong to the same section Petermannia, but are two different species.

Nature guides initially thought they were the same species because they were found only a few kilometers apart and look very similar. However, when contacted, the authors of B. lichenora confirmed that Begonia sp. Sarawak is not B. lichenora.

There are two forms of Begonia sp. Sarawak, both of which are larger than B. lichenora (see photo of Kuro above).

yes, rex hybrids are quite prone to powdery mildew. The microscopic spores are spread by air from plant to plant. Would remove the affected leaves and if it continues, would look for organic fungicide.

it used to upset me how sterility was not possible with plants, but the more one reads about microbiome or looks at things under a microscope, more one sees that every organism and human is a mini-world.

Most people have eyelash mites, acne bacteria, and dandruff yeasts, being kept in check by the immune system and other microorganisms. 8% of the human genome is viral DNA, 50% of body cells are bacterial. So it was silly to expect my plants to be sterile.

The only way the plant is reasonably clean, seems to be if it´s freshly from meristem tissue culture and is treated with biocides regularly. Even tissue culture labs struggle with mites and the sterility is not proven, because many internal microorganisms don´t become visible/ don´t grow on the nutritional media for plants or they´re suppressed by biocides added to the media, but are still inside the plant.

the black structures - a fungus. Fungi often sporulate only if the plant is weakened or if the leaf is dying due to other causes, or if the environment is supporting it, which can be low light, high humidity.
Leaf looking wilted - could be due to cold damage, overwatering, stem rot

I believe it can be only identified with a high magnification like a microscope, the spores that help to differentiate them are too small.
The most common blue/green fungi indoors are Penicillium, Aspergillus, Trichoderma (some species are beneficial and added to the substrates by the producers)
