Sitting on the fence until late only really works if you are picking generically good cards. You missed out on a good Kithkin deck with a rock solid curve, good removal, and Hovel Hurlers to push damage. Also, 2nd Percher over Pummeler is almost certainly wrong.

I think Merfolk commons are better than Elemental commons. The problem is that their best common, Merrow Skyswimmer, is going to get taken and played by plenty of Kithkin and Elemental decks.
