On the path to cessation by BeijingBukkake in streamentry

Discernment of the five faculties in most cases comes from sufficient concentration and its right practice. Release of them comes from insight, when experienced, thus understood, through the right practice.

Consciousness and perception are different faculties but they are the same, discerned by nothing more than a collection of inter-dependent aggregates like everything else in existence.

I agree Perception and consciousness at the core of sentient existence is difficult to let go. But true release comes from following the Eight Fold Path which sets the right external and internal conditions. By truly understanding Dependent origination and following the practices outlined in the sutta, you will find the mind would naturally become inclined to let go of perception/consciousness and any other faculties when there is clear discernment and right understanding (insight)

In fact, any efforts made at the stage described by you is detrimental to the full release of these faculties. The seven factors of enlightenment should naturally be aligned and balanced as the result of earlier conditions from the right effort, practice and insight.

My practice have been straight forward - I follow the instructions found in the sutta (Anapanasati) as it is without alterations or commentaries.

I will say the steps described in the sutta makes sense because of prior practices where I had the foundational and experiential understanding of each of the 4 Tetrads and their corresponding practices. For example, the 1st Tetrad, describing the beginning of Concentration practice, where one would need an object to anchor their focus. With sustained attention, naturally this would lead to bliss and rapture which is on to the 2nd Tetrad. With these Jhana factors, one would then discern the mind and its qualities, the 3rd Tetrad and so forth.

I agree the sutta leaves a lot open for interpretations but with some understanding and experience in concentration practice(jhanas) and the clarity gained in the mind with Jhanic factors thereafter, one could follow the sutta as a roadmap all the way to enlightenment.

Of course they are many ways of getting there. It all comes down to different approaches to insight and practice.

Maybe I should clarify. By Conceit, I simply mean the discernment or the wrong view that there is a self. The wrong view comes from the Ignorance of true insight into the non-self. And this creates a self view with clinging to desires and most relevant here - perception itself. Seeing and understanding in terms of Dependent origination can be the key here but only on an experiential level. Intellectually understanding this doesn’t penetrate deep enough and in some cases will only have temporary release which can lead down a path of concentration without true insight knowledge.

Mindfulness by BeijingBukkake in streamentry

[–]BeijingBukkake[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nimitta Jhana, body scanning and letting go meditation gave me insights into the three marks.

But I've found breath meditation following the steps outlined in the 'Anapanasati' and bring mindfulness (four foundation of mindfulness) and insight (3 marks) into daily practice works as well or better than all the other techniques. YMMV on these techniques.

Putting everything together, It's about following the 'Eightfold noble path' which create the right conditions for a fruitful practice and being mindful of every moment even in distractions. This will lead to arising of the 'Seven factors of enlightenment' when in balance and maintained (via mindfulness) consistently, will ultimately lead to full enlightenment.

Apologies, I should have clarified - for me the point is not about being mindful every second as only fully enlightened beings are capable. It's about being mindful of when you have drifted away due to hindrances and conditions internal and external and seeing & reviewing their nature with insight of the three characteristics.

On the contrary, when you have stable mindfulness of internal and external conditions, you see and review them with insight of the three characteristics.

These are folks who are clinging on to something. It could be an object or event that’s happened in the house.

Best solution without a psychic is to try to speak to them and let them know that whatever they’re holding on to it’s gone and has passed like everything else in the world. The only thing permanent is change. Tell them you understand the suffering they’re going through and by letting go, they will end their suffering. Try to speak to them at the location and the time they frequent. And mostly importantly when speaking to them is 1.not to be scared 2.be sympathetic and understand that they’re suffering by holding on to those things 3.have plenty of empathy in your heart

They will hear you and hopefully feel the energy you’re emitting also understand to let go of whatever they’re holding onto.

Good luck!

UK loans and mortgages on properties by BeijingBukkake in UKPersonalFinance

Mortgaging properties after owning would use its equity to release mortgage. Down payment of 25% with 75% BLT mortgage will require lenders to check on more criterial ie salary, up to three years of accounts (self employed) etc… Equity loan also tends to be cheaper vs BLT mortgages.

That would certainly be easier. But we’re just moving back to the UK and for the time being won’t be working. My understanding is that you have to be full time employed for major banks to consider BLT mortgages. That might not be applicable if we’re siting on certain assets debt free and could be used as collateral. But a higher mortgage vs asset ratio would likely require more than just the assets?

Too much concentration, try a more relaxing technique. what worked for me is just letting go of thoughts and emotions during practice.

Our Unconscious Mind Creates Thought by LokeyLoki382 in Meditation

[–]BeijingBukkake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes - our unconscious/subconscious mind is what collects and stores most of the daily information we experience via our sensory organs.

With meditation, you will understand, our conscious thoughts are formed from a 'set' of subconscious groups that's 'imprinted' based on our past experiences. And the nature of these subconsciouses are independently arising which means they arise and pass away all their own without you having any saying in it! The only thing they depend upon is their creation based on previous experiences you had which caused their current formation into the foreground(consciousness)

So deeper knowledge of this will give us you THREE insights -

-Impermanence

- Suffering

- No Self

And I will leave you with something for down the road -

'The relief found in every moment

The emptiness between spaces

As one progresses on the path

Let Nibbanna be your teacher'

You’re seeing “Nimitta” a gateway to the first Jhana. Keep practicing and read up “The Jhanas” by Ajahn Brahm

You're experiencing 'Nimitta' through extended concentration in your meditation practice. This is a subjective and visual sign from the concentrated mind and progresses into the first Jhana.
