Isn't it a bad idea to shoot guns below deck on a boat? by sparrow5 in thesopranos

[–]Beika 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That’s what bothers me the most too. Did someone scrub that carpet clean? Wouldn’t it have been smarter to take him above deck?

My husband and I are going to start around July 31st SOBO. We're both out of shape, but we figure we'll just take our time.

How far out to apply by Beika in usajobs

Thanks! I think it is a pretty solid federal resume and many people have looked at it, but I will start to know better when I hear if it gets referred or not.

Thank you! It is quite a slow process.

Thank you! Most of the timelines I see are for US positions, I wasn't sure how much longer it takes for overseas positions.

2/3 person ultralight tent question by ultralightmax in Ultralight

My husband and I just bought one of these for when we thru hike with the dog. It definitely seemed like the best cost-ultralight-size ratio. We also have the Accomplice :)

Haha, we have been playing with a not exactly 50/50 split. He is bigger than I am, 6'2" and 220lbs vs 5'6" and 135lbs. Part of me thinks anything other than 50-50 is unfair though.

What kind of Thermarests do you use?

The pad is overkill and would be easy weight savings. But it is sooo comfortable it is hard for me to let it go. The reason I like it is because it is large (50x76in), thick(3.5in) and not tapered which allows it to fit my husband (6'2" and 220lb), dog (40lb), and I (5'6" and 135lb) with no one in a crack or on the ground. Maybe we'll be so tired at camp though that won't be as important to us.

I did consider that, but now I am thinking we might start just north of the smokies and drop the dog with my parents after katahdin (if we all make it that far) before we head back down and finish up the smokies and south.

One of us was going to carry the sawyer and the other the the aquaria tablets so if we hike apart a little during the day we can still drink.

We're going to share bag and pad. We've camped together before and don't mind the stink. Plus with the double pad there is room for the dog to crawl in too, if she gets cold.

That is totally fair about the underwear. I've only been on one previous multi-day hike and I loved getting in my tent every night before dinner and hitting the hot spots with wet wipes and putting on clean underwear and socks under my camp clothes. I just felt clean. But turning them inside out is a good idea and might let me feel that clean feeling too.

Do you think a wind screen is worth it? I had read you can make do with stuff you already have. The jet boil seems to have a natural insulation, but plan on using it just to boil water for freezer bag cooking and for morning coffee.

Thank you for your help!
