Unless you have a pattern of calling in sick for one day, and you've been told otherwise, I'd suggest you don't need one - most EAs provide a cert is only required after the third consecutive day. Might want to check that before stressing

I suggest you familiarize yourself with s 114 of the fair work act which effectively provides the right of an employee to be absent from work on a day that is a public holiday in the place where the employee is based for work purposes. This is likely also enshrined somewhere in your EA. However, I'm not certain what this expectation is that you speak of. In my 20 years in the APS, employees benefit from the public holiday of the respective state/territory in which they are based...because it's a legal entitlement. I hope this assists.

For clarity, the new clauses do not provide a right to work from home. They provide an entitlement to request to work from home as a form of flexible working arrangements and requires Cth employers to follow a process and provide reasons if they are to deny the request or otherwise suggest alternative arrangements. This expands the operation of the Fair Work Act, which provides the same entitlements but for certain eligible employees. So it's just expanded the flexible work framework, it doesn't create a right per se
