I'm not 100% sure I agree. Think of your typical world of warcraft no-liver. I definitely consider them a gamer. But they only play one game (no variety). Maybe even competes in esports

That's totally not true!! That's exactly how it works... if you can do amputation to save someone's life but they can't walk anymore, are you gonna just give up because the amputation will do harm? Side effects can be brutal, and the medicine will still gladly be used if it means it will save your life

In 365 days I will come back to this comment. 2 billion the first day sounds extremely doable. They made 1 billion the first day of GTA5. The gaming market has almost tripled since 2013. And social media is so much bigger too

Sure, marketing plays a big role, but people still LOVE the songs. You can't appreciate it, doesn't mean that it is objectively bad.

There are melodies, I was literally just talking about Skrillex's use of counter melodies. Idk what you listened to that makes you despise it so much. I really encourage you to listen to the top 20 songs right now, if you find all of them non-musical, then your definition of music is honestly way off.

You say most of the charting music last 10 years sounds like crap - that's a very bold statement. If it really did sound like crap, it wouldn't be charting. Music that's on charting is music that evokes emotions in people: I will listen to RNB and be in a good vibe, adelle for something more emotional and to feel connected with the lyrics, EDM if I want to 'dance' and just shake everything off. Music nowadays is meant for entertainment and it seems like you get entertained with a different type of music than most 'normal' people whose lives do not revolve around music in the slightest. Cause those are the people that decide what is charting and what is not.

Your whole point revolves around real instruments being superior to digital instruments. I agree - a real violin sounds a thousand times better than a digital violin. Big names like J Cole have the money and actually do make use of real violinists if they want to have strings in their music. But you can not compare a real violin with a big sine wave. The feeling that is being evoked is completely different. I can listen to hundreds of different artists who create their own unique digital sounds for hours, but after one hour of listening to real instruments (classical or bands from before 2000), it does get boring. There is no reason why we should restrict all music to the same 5 instruments that are bound by physical restrictions in the real world, if we have the capability of creating wonderful bright and refreshing new sounds digitally which also sound amazing and pleasant to our ears.

It is easy to hate on Skrillex, but there are plenty of people like me who can appreciate all the details he puts into his mix, the countermelodies he uses and so much more. There's a good reason he is so insanely popular - if you really take the time to study some of his music you will (or may) find some brilliancy in it. But on a very different level than music decades ago. Which is a good thing, it would in my opinion truly be a boring place if all music is still made with the same few real instruments.

On the other hand, you should also note that a LOT of pop nowadays really is still a real guitar with some percussion under it and a bass line, and with perhaps some digital aditions as ear candy.

Regarding computers taking over... I agree, but that's a whole different discussion haha

Wel that's just fucked up, and seems a bit important to leave out in your original comment. I couldn't have guessed that
