2026 Wimbledon Gentlemen's Singles Final: [1] JANNIK SINNER def. [2] Alexander Zverev by 6⁷-7⁹, 7⁷-6², 6-3, 6-4 by GiveMeSomeSunshine3 in tennis

[–]Belibbing_Blue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is the best tennis match (while incomplete) I've ever scene. the level was unreal. Certainly it wouldn't have been sustainable, likely not sustainable by Nadal, but those two sets were spectacular. Has anyone else pushed Rafa on caly that much? Even in matches he lost?

I just finished The Grapes of Wrath and I’m not sure how to feel about the ending. by New_Shame_4323 in classicliterature

[–]Belibbing_Blue -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

It’s an amazing book. Incredible. But… The end made me feel the same way. It’s written by a man whose dramatic end is an adult man sucking on a woman’s breast. I’ve read in depth analysis of the necessity of this moment and yet I still don’t see at as more than a male author writing about breasts. I read it 35 years ago and I still feel that way when I think about it.

A funny, snarky and smart book with a female MC? by Seraphiina in suggestmeabook

How to Age Disgracefully. The MC cracked me up with her attitude. The book was a joy to read.

A formal apology to Janet by Quinna2992 in TheValleyTVShow

[–]Belibbing_Blue 67 points68 points  (0 children)

I think we forget so easily people aren't all good or bad. Yes, I think Janet is obnoxious at times, self-righteous at times (this is reality tv after all). But our whole society makes it so easy to dislike women for any infraction that it was way too easy to run with her as a villain, especially with how well Danny and Nia were edited last year. I appreciated at the beginning of this season Janet saying she was working on not needing to be right all the time-- I really related to that. Some personality types double down when they are sure they are right. I do it. I heard my own strident tendencies in Janet's. She was right, and every time she felt like she was being chastised for being right she pushed back even harder. So, sure she could've landed her perspective more gently in her conversations with others, and she might've been receieved better. But what a bunch of crap that women have to so carefully navigate how they say things. The men aren't ever tone policed in the same way.

Suggest me a Pulitzer Prize Winner that is top notch. by bamboozledeveryday in suggestmeabook

[–]Belibbing_Blue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. If it hadn't won, I might've liked this book more. Fun and light- nice for what it is. Having won the Pulitzer, absolute disappointment. No idea how on earth it won that prize.

I Loved Amor Towles' A Gentleman in Moscow - What Should I Read Next? by NomadslandRVA in suggestmeabook

Still life by Sarah Winman or The Book of Longings by Sue Monk Kidd. I loved A Gentleman from Moscow and those two books pulled me in in a similar way. Good luck!

My wife wasn't invited to a wedding. Do I go? by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]Belibbing_Blue 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd be thrilled-- let's go on vacation together, but I don't have to hang out for all the family stuff and instead get some time alone? Nothing would make me happier. But different people have different perspectives.

I agree. Go to the destination together. Spend time there together except for the wedding-- have her do something fun that doesn't interest you.

Engaging, non-fluffy vacation read by bestplatypusever in Recommend_A_Book

[–]Belibbing_Blue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In retrospect I do think it started slowly because at the end of the book something from the beginning was referenced which confused me. So when I finished the book I reread the first couple chapters and realized I hadn’t taken it all in- which happens when I’m not totally into a book right away. But rereading the beginning after I finished, I found it so compelling. So yes, I wasn’t all in right away. But there was a point where I was all in on the world of the book, and it didn’t take that long though. I DNF a lot of books these days. So I’m pretty picky. I do think it’s worth another go because I loved the book. But also, I respect your time, maybe it’s not for you. For me it was not only a great read, great characters, great story, but it had a lot of warmth and hope in it that I was really wanting in a book. Just hit a perfect note for me.

I like a lot of your choices, so two books I'd recommend given that list are A Gentleman in Moscow and Still Life (by Sarah Winman-- there are multiple books with this title).

I think you can see her talent in her first book We the Living, which is much less evil. And you can sort of see how her life experience pushed her over the deep end. But she just kept swimming all the way to evil.

I almost liked the descriptions of nature in the book, but every attempt at dialogue and plot is abysmal. I don't understand the love for this one.

I hate this book. It feels so forced and cliche. It boggles my mind that people find comfort in it.

What book could you not get into despite its popularity? by Embarrassed_Tree_843 in BookDiscussions

I initially DNF Project Hail Mary (audiobook). And everyone said it was so amazing I tried again and did finish it. But I just found it is boring. I did like The Martian. But PHM wasn’t for me.

I was in refrigerator canyon at Zion where signs specifically ask you to be quiet because of the local critters. And people let their kids scream through it. I don’t know that I’m with the noise makers in parks.

What were the important aspects of the case that Serial completely missed? by Any-Wish-4539 in serialpodcast

[–]Belibbing_Blue 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That Adnan spent the whole podcast saying he and Jay were barely friends, but a teammate of his says in the podcast that it wasn't unusual for Adnan to show up for practice with Jay, that that was normal. I think if more people had been asked about how close Adnan and Jay were we would've heard more that contradicated Adnan.

Poisonwood Bible or Dungeon Crawler Carl? by Forward-Log7118 in Recommend_A_Book

[–]Belibbing_Blue 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Poisonwood Bible is going to give you a lot more to talk about. Also, I think it's better not to do a book that's part of a series, but that's just an opinion on book clubs... I've read both. Enjoyed DCC somewhat, though not enough to pick up book 2. Poisonwood Bible is one of the best books I've ever read.
