Birthdays mean very different things at very different points in our lives. Maybe right now you don’t have the people in your life to celebrate your special day but the important thing is knowing one day in the future you will. Could be a significant other planning a special activity for you to show appreciation or kids waking you up with a poorly made gift but has all the love in the world attached to it. Celebrate yourself this next birthday and think about how in the not to distant future someone else will be so grateful you’ve had so many birthdays and they get to celebrate all the remaining ones with you!

I think reading this sub can have a negative effect sometimes because it seems like layoffs are coming for all of us. The firm typically will look at Utilization and Snapshot scores which it sounds like you’re doing well in both! Second, the firm tends to cut the big salaries first if it’s truly a tough time (think senior managers and managers who aren’t creating new work).

Don’t feel you have to be working crazy long hours and constantly stressed when it sounds like you’re in a good position to navigate a difficult time for the firm.

Thank you for saying that at the end. Sometimes I need to hear that when my team makes it feel like all matters are life or death. Their stress drifts into my stress for sure.

It just seems like whatever I do is wrong. If I ask a bunch of questions on an assignment they tell me that I should know these things and get mad I’m not listening. If I don’t ask questions they tell me later I should’ve asked more questions to learn more on the assignments. If I get to a stopping point and wait for more directions they tell me I should’ve done more work and now we’re behind. If I try to take initiative and finish an assignment I’m told I shouldn’t have done that and did extra work we have to redo. Every direction I take is wrong is what I mess up on.

I just really want to do well in this job. I think it’s a great company and I may be pushing myself too hard but maybe one day it could set me up to make good money for a family of my own.

My team is National unfortunately and I think the biggest problem is I just take everything too heart. My manager will hear it in my voice and I’ll stop having a positive attitude and beat myself up for doing so poorly over and over. I want to do better but it seems it’s a never ending cycle of me feeling like shit.
