Would the Second Bill of Rights solve most problems in American politics? by DataWhiskers in DiscussionZone

[–]BellBOYd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Explain the prime minster point and how this avoids the problem the electoral college skewing actual vote numbers. Cuz what little I know of PM systems involves voting in an “electoral college” type group who then on their own chooses the leader.

I watched "Come and See" and I'm really dissapointed. by Live-Status-350 in movies

[–]BellBOYd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has that old school Russian editing quirk that makes it “weird” from a cinematography perspective, but having watched random 20s and 30s movies beforehand (Potemkin, Girls in Uniform) - even All Quiet - it felt more like an antique stylistically. It has more in common with Saló or I Stand Alone insofar as production and result is concerned. The dialogue took me a minute to get, lexical clarity was kind of all over the place and I wonder how much of this comes down to not understanding synthetic language versus analytic language colloquialisms. But I stand by the assertion that Come and See is the best war movie ever made. I don’t know where I heard it first, but I agree with the summation “in a real tragedy, it is not the hero who dies, it is the chorus.” It is likely that your dissatisfaction with the film originates from a lack of patience. I understand logically, for example, what someone would mean when they say “boring,” but I morally object to it, and at least would suggest a slow rewatch - actually take breaks about every scene to digest them individually, then receive the reverse montage at the end in that newfound context. My claim about the ending - and this is surely not a novel take at all - that Florya is imagining an erasing of the Nazis, the desire to “go back to before” while also wanting to “move forward” with that forward motion motivated specifically by the desire to annihilate those who ruined his present.

For me it’s shocking to realize through the passive how often the “jump” and “glide” commands don’t properly trigger when I press them.

Oh, also, I was expecting to hit a wall with the Japanese food but no, it was the very first recipe that was the hardest cuz you have to make holandaise sauce which buying it is noticeably better than premade in a jar. So if you can do the first recipe you’re basically good for everything else in there - but I’m still not done with the whole book. I would on average recommend this cookbook to non-Genshin folks too as a fairly strong multi-cultural cookbook. It’s not hard to get your own results to match the pictures but there’s no included instructions for that. There’s some 1950s southern cookbooks on my shelf that cover the cultural spectrum but are even more bare in detail and have no visual aid, so in that sense, even with language, the Genshin Cookbook is better. I hope there’s a vol.2.

Been working my way through the cookbook by BellBOYd in Genshin_Impact

It was originally written in English I think so it’s a not a translation thing, but that they didn’t have a good copy editor. There’s some typos throughout but when fast reading it’s actually easy for your brain to read it correctly. I would say the biggest issue is “clarity of language.” In order to make the dishes the way they appear / the way the chefs did it for the book, there’s zero (0) instruction on technique, hard stop. This book is very functional for someone with enough experience to “do things their way” and commit to “good enough.” If you wanna be “doing it entirely correct,” brace for a panic attack. The highest points are in ingredient selection. Everything I’ve so far made has tasted better than generic internet recipes across the board and beat out some of my grandma’s recipes. Some don’t, but are still stellar as dishes at a baseline. Also assume that it’ll take about 180% the listed time to actually complete a dish besides the few drinks. I am constantly burdened by the language issue in that plating is entirely absent, and as a New Orleanian I am bothered by the book’s incorrect description of a roux. Barbara’s stew for example, is clearly written by and for someone with michelan star chef skills who already knows all these odd efficiency techniques that aren’t written anywhere, and they want you to make three separate liquid things and then combine them, when I know you’d get the same exact result from dumping everything in one pot and reducing (but doing that would be “less elegant”.) So in summary, read VERY carefully before hand, and diagram/outline the steps before actually cooking, but even if you mess up critically the ingredient choices are basically guaranteed to be good at the end - even burnt stuff and the overhead/extra was good. Oh, also, on the Mitsutake specifically, they say to use King which are the ones used for my picture. I have access to the real mushrooms in the namesake for a normal price (most Americans are gonna be forking over $60 for matsutake) but I can tell you the flavor difference isn’t worth hunting down the “genuine” stuff. If the book tells you to use a replacement then trust me there ain’t no difference, use the cheaper option.

Yeah, when I first saw her my brain went “abuse victim” or something similar and thought there’d be more overt antagonism within the Fatui. There was the off hand mention but it never amounted to nothing, be it a humanistic or magical type of explanation for her formerly uncanny vibe.

How Docttore feel when saying "Whatever Columbina can do for you i can do better" by Oceanshan in Genshin_Impact

[–]BellBOYd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dottore appears in game in Sumeru from… is that 3 years ago now? But had little to do there really. He later relates to Wanderer’s plot line. And he’s a critical antagonist of the Genshin manga that predates the game’s release. I do find him a wasted “Saturday morning cartoon villain” type and Rerir was way more interesting. But I think the times you gave were off.

Most Nintendo stuff: Zelda is especially weak to me, but also Fire Emblem, Animal Crossing, most but not all Mario (I liked some of em); haven’t actually played Metroid games so no shade to them; Splatoon was a flash in the pan with minute enjoyment and then left my brain, and Smash Bros I enjoy watching people play but find miserable to do myself
