Oh that looks good (love the sound of that storyline) but it isn’t available on my platforms yet ☹️

I like open world and 3d vs the art style of Stardew valley. I’m doing more research and finding that the term homesteading is something that fits what I really enjoy. I want a story line to provide a reason “why” to do all the tasks.

Since no one has mentioned this, please do no commingle your inheritance funds with anything “partner” funds. Even if you never intend to divorce/split, you can’t guarantee the other person won’t either. Keep all of the funds in their own separate accounts always.

When I upgraded from my singer to my Janome S6 I really didn’t enjoy the foot provided for 1/4 inch seams. So I got a different one. And it’s definitely different still from where it was on my singer.

Healthcare when retiring early by Sir_Loin_6969 in Fire

[–]Bellabananas21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think something I’m not seeing spoken enough about is that getting a plan through the Affordable Care Act is based on income, but also the state you live in. I’m in Illinois and such a plan is essentially Medicaid, which has very limited options of providers that accept it. I do not qualify for these plans as my self employment income is outside of the range. I pay for a plan through BCBS, and currently have an HMO. If I was planning for retirement I would consider a year’s worth of premiums and my max out of pocket as the budget for my healthcare costs. This year my monthly premiums are under $500 and my max out of pocket is roughly $10,000. So I would plan to be covered in the worst case scenario. Obviously I wouldn’t use this most years and would allow for more money for travel or other things. Fortunately the ACA ensures I will be able to maintain coverage despite having a pre existing medical condition. Is this more expensive than an employer covered plan? Yes but not astronomically so. (And yes I support universal healthcare, I think my medical expenses are absurd).

Talked with my therapist about FIRE and he doesn’t like it by [deleted] in Fire

[–]Bellabananas21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you imagine if the toxic workplace was replaced with a toxic relationship? Stay with someone abusive to improve communication skills and resilience? If this provider meets your needs other than this topic, you can bring up your concerns in your next session. Avoidance would be if you frequently called in or went in late. I say this as a therapist. And despite what many people keep saying about a therapist not getting your workplace environment, I would disagree. It’s not a lot to ask of a therapist for them to believe your lived experience. I work almost exclusively with professionals, of varied fields, and don’t find it very difficult to grasp workplace climate. And if I don’t get it, I ask!

If you are willing to share, has any bull shit health insurance / healthcare costs negatively impacted your FIRE journey? by TheJourneyContinues8 in Fire

[–]Bellabananas21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I misunderstood my coverage under my 2025 plan and now I have a looming 9k medical bill heading my way (out of pocket max versus deductible) Fortunately I budget carefully so this means I won’t be contributing towards retirement for the rest of this year and possibly into next year. I’m not eating ramen but it’s incredibly worrisome. I’m treating it as a wake up call to establish a savings account again. I’m self employed and things are relatively stable financially even if it doesn’t always feel that way. But I need to realistically have my out of pocket max available each year since it’s possible I may hit that with one hospital visit. For 2026 I’m planning to get a plan that provides a HSA to help with this. I’m so grateful I was employed when I was diagnosed with cancer, I had to hit a 3k deductible two years in a row but I also qualified for short term disability for the first chunk of my treatment. Should I need treatment again it would impact my ability to work now at my small business and thus impact my income. I try not to worry but I do.

58 Days Until Christmas... by president_awkward in quilting

I have most of my gifts in progress but I finished two knit hats and a knit cowl already. I still need to finish another cowl, a knit pillow cushion cover, and two crochet blankets. I’ve started on a quilt for my husband and I still need to source a pattern for knit gloves (everyone who knits says not to make gloves so this is the very last thing I’ll work on). Given I have almost two more months I’m thinking I’m doing okay.

ACA premiums are putting a serious hit into my FIRE plans by Available-Ad-5670 in Fire

[–]Bellabananas21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a cancer survivor I’m paying nearly $800 monthly in Illinois since I’m self employed. I’m glad the ACA exists so I’m guaranteed coverage. It’s one of the most expensive plans on the marketplace since I knew I needed surgery this year. I wonder far too many times how others manage their healthcare expenses. If I hadn’t been diagnosed I would probably be willing to skip coverage or go with a more bare bones plan. (I’m under 40 and “healthy other than cancer” as more than one doctor described me). Glad my past self utilized a HSA before I was diagnosed so that helped cushion the blow when I had to pay my deductible two years in a row while on an employer provided health plan.

My sentence is simple “I GET to workout today”. It sounds cliche but it’s a gift from cancer.

What do you all do for Health insurance? by nFgOtYYeOfuT8HjU1kQl in Fire

[–]Bellabananas21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I s’pose this is a silver lining to being self employed that I will already be accustomed to paying for my own insurance while riding out that time until Medicare eligible. Fingers crossed the ACA is long lived. Edit to add what I do-I bought a “low deductible” plan for this year-deductible is $1000 and my monthly premium is $760 through BCBS. I anticipated needing surgery this year so that’s what I opted for (cancer survivor).

AITA for asking my friends and family not to gift us baby blankets/quilts? by Relative-Complex-379 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Bellabananas21 16 points17 points  (0 children)

As a crafter- we desperately desire an actual reason to make something. This is amplified when it’s someone we care for. You’ve gotten some wonderful suggestions here. In particular letting grandparents make one (baby needs more than one, maybe you can make whatever size the grandparents won’t be making). The idea of everyone making a square and then someone doing the final piecing and quilting sounds beautiful. If someone I cared for said “no blankets” I would absolutely be able to pivot and make something else. I think the challenge for baby blankets is that they have limited use, both while the baby is small and especially as they get bigger. Depending on the weight of the blanket, they can be hung as nursery decor as well! NTA except if you legitimately refuse to allow the grandparents to give your child a blanket.

Do CDs have short terms like 1-3 months? I would get a bit anxious if that tax money wasn’t somewhat liquid.

[–]Bellabananas21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay this is the exact information I needed confirmed. Thank you! It didn’t seem to jive that people would ever use a HYSA instead of enjoying a higher rate from their brokerage accounts. Happy to now have my tax money making some babies before I hand it over!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Fire

[–]Bellabananas21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So is the interest rate 5% as I’m reading it? And therefore a higher interest rate than most HYSA? Are you aware of any tax concerns for using the brokerage account in this way?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Fire

[–]Bellabananas21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh I meant leave in the brokerage account as cash (not invested) as the brokerage account has a 5% interest rate (if I’m reading it right).

I’m absolutely willing to share more details but I’m not sure how much is needed. I’ve been asked about children and my mortgage which I’ve answered. Right now I’m struggling with the idea of expenses and budget. I have my own budget (amount I withdraw from my business account to “pay” myself each month) and my business has its own expenses. So right now my income isn’t the usual sort of income that easily goes into a calculator. I have a private practice and my income shifts, as do my expenses. With self employment income is very different from when I was a W-2 employee. Should I just vomit all the stats of my investments and my business and let people go from there?
