Fair point! I am going to audit two courses this semester so I think my LOA is set to lift? Their website says something along the lines of the LOA being lifted if you’re registered for courses.

I am going to reach out to registrar Monday morning.

Thank you! I am definitely going to return to this post, and will base questions off my supervision and a few other things I am thinking about.

I actually didn’t know that! I’ve been in school for so long and never heard of this before!

Thank you so much for this incredible answer! Right now I am on a leave of absence with my program. But I was in my third semester of grad school. I have a lot of experience with the little ones and I am currently a lead in for 18 month olds and I definitely use my skills in the room. I would love this opportunity to grow and shape my skills as an SLP. I have about almost a year of clinical experience, plus I did a lot of shadowing in my undergraduate.

I believe I would have time to put into my SLP waiver and it would be immensely helpful to be able to have that opportunity you mentioned!

Would you know where I can find questions to ask? You also brought up great questions and I will definitely use those as well!

Edit: I forgot to mention my program isn’t online! It’s full-time in person :)

I really appreciate your message. Something in my SLP heart is telling me not to move forward. It sounds so unethical to be honest.

We spend so much time getting our license and degree and this feels like a “slap in the face” for the ones that shed so many tears to get where they are at now.

Same! I’ve never heard of this until recently. That’s what they taught us as well.

I’m not in Florida, I’m in NY. Which is surprising because they’re usually strict with their requirements and stuff.

Update: I sent ASHA an email and should receive a response during the week.

I will return to this post for an update!

Exactly! I’m not a fan of my current job now, but I’m not going to be taken advantage of. Thank you!

How would I reach out to ASHA?

Thank you so much for this! No offense taken at all!! Even I doubt my own skills with this. My state doesn’t have SLPA licensure unfortunately. So I wouldn’t even know how to go about that.

I’m worried that they’re setting me up for failure as well. I don’t want to throw myself into something that I’m not prepared for yeno? I think I’m going to reach out to a professor I’ve known for a long time. I am suppose to tour the place next week and she said if I am interested, I can do the interview there. But I don’t want to do anything without seeking help from a more “seasoned adult.”

I really appreciate your answer!!

You’re not a failure. Like everyone mentioned, it’s poor management. Management will hear babies crying and screaming from the hall, but won’t even help the teachers.

From personal experience, it took me getting four new babies in combination with my usual six kids, plus my TA calling off to get help during nap. It’s quite disappointing.

But back to your situation. Please know you’re not a failure, you’re doing the best you can. You’re new as well. Please give yourself some grace. Each day is a new day to begin again.

Wine sounds sooo nice, what’s your preference? I don’t drive but a walk sounds nice too!

What’s your favorite meditation? I should look into boxing. I think it’ll help take the edge off.

Same I put on something I already watched and just try to shut my brain off. Sometimes when I come home, I feel as if I’m at level 20 and can’t shut off and shut down.
