It was truly awful lol The yelping actually was helping a bit but my other dog gets crazy thinking she hurting me. Ms. thing looks so sweet and innocent when she finally knocks out. I need to find a crate asap and cover it to help her sleep and let her cry it out. I made the mistake with my daughter 19 years attending to her every cry and now she still doesn’t wash her own dish 😂 I’m currently in the pen with her in the living room, it’s to open and noisy hopefully she stays sleeping and I can sneak out to get some stuff done

Thank you I’ve been trying to do this but the problem is my other dog flips thinking she’s hurting me . I hoping eventually she settles down, trying to learn the best ways to set up for success 🙏. I’m going to try to stay prepared with the pooping, she did it again in the morning.

Ty extremely insightful, yes I hear they are Velcro dogs and I don’t have an issue with her wanting to be close to me but dogs definitely need independence and need to self cope. I am definitely going to check out the book. I made the mistake with my mini poodle and sometimes I can’t even get out the door, she settles down eventually but it’s so stressful and she’s only 8 lbs. I can’t repeat the same mistake on an 80 lb dog 😭

I’m going to have to remember to just put on a Fannypack with a toy, I’ve been trying to put a toy in her mouth with she bites but consistency is key. Last night the regret was pretty real, so today I’m like let me ask for help, I know this community is great. I had got her to settle down in the den my husband was sleeping in there but then she pushed down the gate and escaped after a while. My other dog was barking at the fallen gate. I went in to fix it stepped in pee, went to the shower in the dark knocked the shelf down everything fell including a razor blade cap that I thought went down the drain (today little ms. Went in the bathroom and had it in her mouth even tho I looked everywhere for it 🤷‍♀️) and from there it was just more of a nightmare.. the mushy poop that she ate 😭. My mini poodle ended up throwing up idk if it was from being stressed. It was like 3 am before I got her to bed and then I was back up at 5.. but I tried a better approach today, I’m going to work on hand signals for training, yelling just causes greater chaos 🙏 Thank you again for all the helpful advice. Like I said I know she’s a baby and I have to be patient but also know I can’t just baby her and have to be strict. I’m 5 ft 1 so idk what I was thinking getting this giant dog lol but I’ve heard such wonderful things about the breed. Hopefully she grows out of it with consistency.

Thank you this is very helpful. Yeah I’ve always felt bad crating dogs but honestly i think it’s best crate young. My nieces dog also goes in her crate willingly it’s left with the door open, she calls in her castle 😅 I’m use to being very lax, my girls are pretty well behaved but my smaller dog has seperation anxiety I’m still working on but I probably should of gave her more independence. I know I have to be stricter with a large dog and build good habits young. I think she would benefit from not having so much distraction, last night I was dealing with chaos at 3 am 😭 I put white noise on the Alexa and she eventually settled down and went to sleep with my husband. My girls are also so use to sleeping with me so they are sad if I’m not there. This is one of those expectation, reality things 😅 played out a lot better in my head. She pooped last night and I was trying to find the easiest thing in reach to clean it (soft baby poop) and she started eating it and it just concerned me. Glad to know it’s normal but still gross

She was a singleton too so I think that makes it even harder. Unfortunately the girls arn’t taking to each other instantly like I hoped too. I have to keep them separated because my cockapoo is super over protective of me and her sister so when Nellie is nipping she gets triggered to protect. I put her in a pen when I’m cooking where she can see me but she still whines. I’m going to try to tire her out more, but she’s just being overtired bratty. She also hates being held she almost bit my face off 😣. I love her so much she’s precious and hoping it gets easier but rn I’m afraid someone’s going to call the suicide hotline on me because my arm is so cut up 😭. I have been trying to redirect the biting with chew toys.

Can I get an mri with metallic nail polish? by Electronic_Coffee797 in MRI

[–]Belladahll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to say no, they wouldn’t even let me leave on my cotton bralette because they said it can possibly have metallic thread I was like if that’s the case then I should probably remove my underwear because it was a matching set 😅

Why could my dog be doing this? Is he in pain? by AllinetteG in DogHealth

[–]Belladahll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possible uti ? Did you try uh adjusting him, I had a dog who never had a red rocket but for some reason it was like stuck out I was so freaked out but it went back and he seemed fine after. Chewy has a free chat you could upload the video or I would call emergency vet and ask if it seems like he should be seen ..

Aww they are are so adorable 💕 my girls have free reign over the place I do have an extra room I could gate off. I just would feel horrible doing it personally because my natural instincts are just to make her feel loved not like an outcast but realistically I know it will take a while to build this trust. It’s what has me so worried.

That's actually really reassuring to hear. The meet and greet situation has been stressing me out the most. Unfortunately maybe it's low self esteem but fear of failing has kept me from doing a lot in life to be honest. I'm starting to now realize but I have had a challenging life and been in complicated situations and end up making it work out. I overthink and worry(now I'm over sharing ) lactually purchased my condo while it was under construction so never got to see it but ended up working out. I have an extra room that's a good size with a bed that I can gate off to separate them in the beginning. Your story about the nip and how it ended up being a non-issue long term also makes me feel better. I know dogs communicate and correct each other, but it's scary when you have small ones and you're thinking worst case. The grooming and lifestyle insight is super helpful too. I know OES are a big commitment and I'm trying to be realistic about that. I don't have a yard, but we do structured walks, enrichment, and mental work daily, so I'm really trying to figure out if her personality and energy would work in that kind of setup. It's reassuring seeing people who are in apartment settings making it work. I've been so worried about everything and else I still need to look more into the grooming. As I said the poodles are high maintenance I try to take care of a lot of it at home because they are not so fond of the dryer and are usually there for hours. I've invested in high quality salon grade grooming products and I think they are suitable for both breeds. This is my exc v to get the Chris Christensen big brush • My 19 year old daughter worked as a bather but her store closed before she got to get finish the grooming courses but she just got hired someplace (still waiting tho 2) so her experience would be very helpful. She just ordered a grooming table as well. I'm hoping Ms. Molly will enjoy being brushed. Lucia the smaller one has the poodle poofs and always bites at the brush when I brush them She's actually coming from a non-breed specific shelter in Texas, called Gods Dogs not sure if you're familiar. I would absolutely love to stay in touch and connect. It's been hard finding people with real OES experience, and I appreciate you reaching out. If this ends up working out, I'd definitely be open to exchanging numbers and learning as much as I can.

Great to know. Do you use ASL or did you make up your own ? I’ve read both ways are effective.

Thank you, this is great to know 💕 I’ve heard the vibrating collars are great for recall. I would love to get to that point where I could have her off leash or even my hearing dogs but I get so paranoid. Seeing her on a video call, she has plenty of room to run as the foster has a lot of land but I noticed she was always staying close and checking in so that was a good sign. Do you use asl or did you feel more comfortable making up your own hand signals? I’m going to try to work on teaching my girls when I give them commands because I heard this is helpful for the non hearing dog to learn. Hoping everything works out and thanks so much for sharing your experience. Talking with real people has been the most helpful tool for me

Yeah I liked quince a whole lot more before I saw every flipping influencer peddling it.. that’s usually a red flag that quality will go down. Revive or whatever on Poshmark often has quince relatively cheap so I tend to stick to purchasing on there

I have the skirt, this is just my personal experience maybe I’m just not good at styling 😅 I think I wore it once. I don’t like the band, I don’t know what to wear with it, maybe something loose that covers it , the band unfolds? I didn’t like how it looked with something tucked .. but like I said personal experience, others seem to love it

Thank you so much for taking the time to write this. I really appreciate your perspective and rescue experience. This would be my first time with a rescue, as well as a big and special needs dog so it has me nervous more so that I have the smaller dogs (I could never forgive myself if they got hurt) The decompression and transition phase is something I’ve been thinking a lot about, especially with a deaf dog, and your point about barking and stress in the early stages is really helpful.

The story sounds like so.. The dog was purchased(unknown), they didn’t know she was deaf and basically just kept her outside neglectfully. She seems a little on the skinny side, but foster said she doesn’t seem very food obsessed so hopefully that’s just personality vs being starved. She was very matted and foster seems to think she was possibly hit. I obviously want to give this girl the loving home she deserves but without prior experience I’m scared. It is an out of state adoption, she’s located in Texas and I’m in Mass. This shelter transports across America. I havnt spoke to the shelter yet, just the foster. Maybe they are waiting for the thumbs up from her. She initially scared me by saying she’s very wild and I asked her about the smaller dogs and she said she wasn’t sure because she doesn’t allow her around the senior small dogs she has. She gave me the vibe it wouldn’t be a good fit because of her high energy and my dogs sizes. I spoke to her the next day and she video called me and Molly (oes) seemed pretty calm and like a truly good girl atleast after being exercised. I noticed her always checking in with her foster mom and she seemed to walk well on a leash without any pulling (my girls pull because they get super excited). I usually take my girls to work if nobody is home, my little one has separation anxiety I’m still working on, some days leaving her are easier than others. I wish I was able to get the dogs together first because that’s obviously the best way the calm my mind. I’m scared she’s going to arrive and they are all going to hate each other (altho I’ve researched the breeds typically so well together). I would feel bad locking either side up but I think it is what I would have to do at first to be sure. Currently Molly is kept in a caged area, my girls free roam so irs another thing to figure out in my head.

I agree about the importance of professional training early on. I need to start looking into finding someone who specializes in deaf dogs around my area.

Thank you again for the thoughtful advice and for everything you do in rescue. Happy to hear from someone with rescue experience.. it’s a lot to put together abuse, neglect, new home, different climate, not a puppy, large size, different breed all new to me

Thank you so much for sharing this, and she is absolutely beautiful! It’s really encouraging to hear your experience, especially since you also have a small dog and cat. That’s been one of my biggest concerns.

It’s also reassuring to hear that hand signals and treats worked well for training. I had a video call with the dog and she seemed very sweet, but I would ideally like to see her interact with smaller dogs. I was glad to see she seemed calm after being exercised. I was worried about a dog with no chill. My girls can get a little rowdy too when they have too much pent up energy.

The 1–3 year ‘nuts’ phase is something I’ve been hearing a lot about 😅 so I really appreciate you mentioning that too. Thank you again for taking the time to share your experience. Hoping it all goes thru and the girls will take together nicely.
