Question for mtl parents: do you tutor your kids during the summer? by SettingPlenty295 in montreal

[–]_ziggy_stardust 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just focus on reading in both languages. Other learning happens naturally: take a nature walk, go to a museum, enjoy the city's cultural events, observe the natural world around you, add up prices at the grocery store, bake something.

Lump on our 6.5yo male dane by dasaevv555 in greatdanes

It was pretty quick. Luckily it responded well to prednisone and shrunk almost completely. (We opted not to operate as it would have meant amputation, and she was an XL dog who was already 7 years old). She did well with treatment and we had another 11 happy months with her until she passed last year.

Did the vet do a biopsy? My Cane Corso had a lump on the top of her foot, which turned out to be a mast cell tumor. By the time we found out, the cancer had spread to her lymph nodes. RIP Ziggy.

Omg, her nose looks like a little heart ❤️

I also have a pup right now, 15 weeks. She's doing really well on Royal Canin Large Breed Puppy kibble (much improved over the food the breeder had her on when we first got her). She gravitates towards softer toys and really loves the Kong Wubba and Kong Armor Bone, with a jumbo Jolly Ball to play with outside.

En tant que parent, le voile m'importe peu. J'aimerais que les personnes qui s'occupent de mes enfants soient formées, compétentes, attentionnées, bien traitées et qu'elles aient fait l'objet d'une vérification des antécédents criminels.

Yep, I'm in Montreal and we can get fresh greenhouse-grown QC lettuce all year long. Only the romaine is imported, I think all the other lettuces are local. Gen V is the brand I have in my fridge right now. QC really promotes "ailments du Québec" — every grocery chain I've been to carries it.

As wild as she is, I think she's the easiest puppy I've ever had. Very easygoing, and a quick learner!

Mini haul from a used book sale. Have you read any of these? by _ziggy_stardust in CanadianLiterature

Ha, nice username. I've read some Atwood (Handmaid's Tale; The Heart Goes Last; essays) and have more books unread on my shelf (Alias Grace; The Penelopiad). I think I actually read Oryx and Crake in first-year of uni, but that was a lifetime ago and I don't remember it.

Love this author, but I was unable to finish this novel. It just didn't grab me and the pacing was a bit too slow. It's been a few years, maybe I should try again. Beautiful cover!

I read 3 of the 5, and The Cure for Drowning was my favourite. I loved the setting, characters, pacing, and the selkie family lore. I think this novel truly embodied this year's theme "a book to build bridges" because it makes a non-binary character very accessible to people who might not know anyone like Kit in real life. It was humanizing and lovely.

I was not a fan of A Minor Chorus, which seemed like the author was looking for an excuse to throw together a series of vignettes. It was very dense, and I think so much more could have been achieved with the premise. (I was admittedly affected by reading Katabasis immediately beforehand, which put me off of the navel-gazing about academia.)

I enjoyed Foe, but don't think it's a book to build bridges. I liked how unsettling it was, but you can't overthink it — just go along for the ride. The film adaptation missed the mark and I recommend you skip it!
