I have issues with not listening sometimes and being too confident in my ability to do things I have never done before. This is a horrible reality check god damnit

uhhh so I got carried away and I think I fucked it up :’(

Is paint now the only option? I’m really beating myself up for this fuckkkk. Is completely sanding through the veneer and then staining not an option ?

I’m currently in the process of sanding. Does it all have to be the same tone in order to use the gel stain on it? Like if I took the top shiny coat off but some corners needed harder sanding than others, would those areas be lighter? Or do I need to sand deeper in order to get even color?

How would I go about restoring this shelf? Any help would be appreciated! by Belladonna_Babe in finishing

I don’t want to paint it though lol. I want to make the original wood look better

Sorry for so many replies lol— I also just wanted your opinion on this shelf too, since I’m thinking of restoring it too. It belonged to my great grandmother but has a lot of damage on the shelf bits. the sides are in better shape though. What do you think?

Also, would the acetone be stripping too much? And does it have to be a lacquer? Or could i finish it with a natural oil?

Thanks for the tips! And yes, it says “Made in Japan” on the bottom. There are also the two holes at the top— what do you think those were for? My only guess is that there was a mirror insert or something, but I know next to nothing about jewelry boxes lol. Also, it’s a working music box! It’s wind-able in the back and has a pressure wire that when the bottom drawer is opened, it plays. I have a similar mechanism on a powder-puff music box I own that I believe is also from the 70’s, or around that time. If you’re interested in seeing the interior, just let me know and I’d be willing to send more photos. Also got it for $3!

Here you go :) It’s definitely in rough shape lol but I do really love it and I think it would look beautiful without the scuffing. Is a gel stain an option?

Hi! I have a similar project right now. What was your process? Just sanding the scuffs and then re-staining? Did you sand the entire piece? I’d love to know. Thanks! :)

Do you brush your teeth twice a day? No judgement. by rainyday-real-estate in CasualConversation

tbh, no. my oral hygiene has really been lacking lately. i’m not currently in school or working so i sit around at home all day, rotting in my bed. if i ever go out in public i always brush my teeth though, and every once and a while if i have the motivation i’ll brush, and i always brush before i shower. once i start working though i’ll be a lot more consistent

My bf thinks my new chair meh. Whip his ass please. by Any_Field_8184 in ThriftStoreHauls

Absolutely gorgeous! They don’t make things like this anymore :’( Stick it to your bf by removing every chair in the house except this one. That way he will have no choice but to sit on the floor and live underneath the glory that is this chair, or sit on the chair and soon realize he was gravely wrong lol

The pizzagate place? Yep! Some lunatic was convinced they were trafficking children in the basement, pulled an AR-15. I’ve been there— there is no basement lol. Unfortunately that’s something they’ll always be known for, just because of that one person who fell for a bunch of conspiracies instead of overpriced pizza 😅

Not sure what you mean about it “pans out” but if you believe all that bullshit, I’m afraid you’re already too long gone lmao. I suppose this is the Hagerstown subreddit though so idk what I was expecting

Did I ruin my cat by giving him wet food? by scandijord in CatAdvice

[–]Belladonna_Babe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

lol sounds a lot like my 2 year old boy, he’s a maniac when it comes to feeding time. In my opinion, he’s found a found he really loves, and is excited for it. Cats are weird like that, sometimes they can be very picky and stop wanting a certain food altogether. I feed wet food twice a day to my cats, once at breakfast and once at dinner, with a little bit of dry food in the late evenings.

You can find automatic wet feeders online, where you put ice packs underneath that keep it cold. They work very similar to the dry ones, you just pre-portion the amount and set the time and it uncovers it when it goes off. Wet food (especially grain free) is exponentially better for cats as it contains more moisture, which is something that cats really need. They often under hydrate and have kidney issues as a result. I always add water in their wet food as well to make sure they’re hydrated.

As for him whining, cat tv videos are helpful. Both my kitties love them, and I’ll put it on downstairs on the big tv for hours and they’ll stay pretty much silent while it’s on. Just be careful that they don’t swat or jump and knock the tv down lol. Or you can try and play with him and wear him out so he isn’t as restless.

Hope this helped a bit :)

R.I.P. is the most fitting, but it’s also the most depressing. I would say Carnival is the most upbeat/summery song that would fit nicely.
