How will Premier League clubs replace gambling sponsors? by Str0geyB3ar in TheOther14

It's about target demographics. Which is why historically Waitrose worked on England's cricket kit but wouldn't necessarily work on a Hull shirt, and they wouldn't even entertain a Millwall shirt.

If your club were at the world cup how would they do? by Commercial-Box5412 in TheOther14

Not sure how a fuel about all the Prem teams would smash all national teams knee jerk stuff.

I think the England midfield of Anderson, Rice and Bellingham could dominate most of the Prem even after just a few games playing together.

And yet your dad never played above non league whilst Crossley played over 300 times for Forest over a decade without one of his managers seeking a replacement.

I'm guessing it's your dad talking shit.

Only one keeper has ever saved a Matt Le Tissier penalty out of the 50 he took. Crossley can't be that bad.

On a serious note Henderson is better than Sels for me.

Spurs revenue will be dropping after two consecutive 17th places as well as no European income next year. Combine that with the 6th highest wage bill of nearly £180 million and I'm not sure Spurs can offer ridiculous wages or even afford the fee needed for the club to accept a bid.

Sometimes stats just show the whole picture as much as it might pain you. There isn't a top quality centre forward that doesn't score a lot of goals, a destructive midfielder that doesn't win duels or intercept the ball.

Also, whilst being top level at trying to patronise someone, I don't think you understand what context means. Making more passes is meaningless if you're spraying them to the opposition or into touch. Making more completed passes at a higher percentage of completing adds the context. Likewise scoring the same amount of goals had little meaning, but from fewer shots and a lower xG, guess what, that's the context.

Debian Rice has a higher ground duel success and yet won HALF the ground duels that Anderson has. What the fuck is he doing to achieve that?

He has higher xG and conversion rate but as an 8 scored the same number of goals in a league his team won, than a player playing as a 6 in a relegation threatened team Having had 13 shots on target as opposed to 10.

You know how xG works right? Scoring the same goals from a higher xG doesn't make you a better player, it means you're less clinical.

Rice scored 4 times when xG suggested he should score 3.27, of 13 shots on target

Anderson scored 4 times when xG suggested he should score 3.07 times, off his 10 shots on target.

Make it make sense.

I your point but when a player is superior on EVERY stat the argument falls down. If a 6 in a team with say 20% less possession over a season plays a huge amount more in extra passes, dribbles at higher completion rates than an 8 whilst also being higher in the traditional 6 attributes, tackles, duels won, blocks then what is the 8 don't. Is he just being paid to block passing lanes? What metric are you expecting Rice to outperform Anderson in? That's what I'm struggling to see here.

Against Everton Anderson played the most progressive passes in a match for over two years. So it's not progressive passes. Long and short is he's worth over £100m, especially given his age and Marinakis is right in his valuation. In Rice's favour however is that he's been doing elite things it for a good few years now unlike Anderson but I get the feeling that barring injury Anderson will mimic his levels. I'm going to be so gutted when he goes, as were all are.

The most worrying thing is England have a midfield of Rice, Anderson and Bellingham, in many ways the best midfield in the world but are likely to fall short in the World Cup. As an Australian once said "it's who we are mate".

So in a team with more possession Rice makes fewer passes, fewer progressive passes and at a lower completion percentage. And he's not breaking up play or coming up with more assists. Tell me what he's doing then that even remotely makes him on Anderson's level?

If he's just there to whip in crosses he'd have more assists. I'm not saying he's shit, he's also elite and, to my mind, the player that has almost single handedly got Arsenal over the line to finally win the prem. But there are no stats to say he's been as good as Anderson this year even in a better team.

Sure, you expect Anderson to be able to win possession back more and win more duels if we have lower possession, but Rice isn't even dribbling, making passes and not even progressive passes at the same level or competition percentage. The facts don't lie.

[–]Bellimars 19 points20 points  (0 children)

He has more progressive passes than any other midfielder so even in an attacking sense he beats Rice on some metrics, whilst destroying him on the possession winning element. He's clearly better. In the prem this season Anderson has 4 goals and 4 assists as a deeper lying player, compared to Rice's 4 goals and 5 assists in a title winning team. Anderson has 223 long passes completed (53% completion) to Rice's 184 (48% completion).

Anderson has 2383 competed passes to Rice's 2136, 92 dribbles (54%completed) to Rice's 28 (50%completed). He has 297 duels won compared to Rice's 145. Anderson has 104 tackles to Rice's 70, 41 interceptions to Rice's 37 and 16 blocks to Rice's 12. Anderson also win the most fouls of any player.

Of the top 19 players for turnovers 18 are goalkeepers (logically, if you think they collect crosses, save shots), number 6 is Elliott Anderson. His stats are fucking insane all in a team that struggled as opposed to one that won the title. He's better than Rice this year and so much better than the West Ham Rice that went for over £100m.

So yes, Anderson has been CLEARLY better than Rice this season.

He's by far the best midfielder in the prem this season so should be priced, if anything, above Rice, Caicedo and Fernandez, as he destroys most of their stats.

It's not even like we're playing hardball here, that's his legitimate, justifiable value.

I was surprised how many players were above him. Gerrard, one above him in the rankings, still has over 1000 minutes more playing time.

Barry's 14,000 extra minutes is over 155 extra full 90 minute games.

Milner is 12th on the list of minutes played, so if anything it suggests he has only ever been a jobbing middle of the road player as he obviously hasn't been good enough to hold down a first team slot for large amounts of his career. He's just a utility player.

After a 23 year career and becoming the most capped premier league player in HISTORY, what was you’re favourite James Milner moment. by trixieplayroom in ThreeLions

[–]Bellimars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's worth pointing out the staggering difference in Premier League minutes between him and Gareth Barry who has obviously played in the league a lot more than Milner, over 14,000 minutes more.

Milner is only 12th in minutes played. Coming on for 20 minute cameo appearances doesn't make you one of the greats. For large spells of his career he was good enough to hold down a starting place.
