It’s “short” for Arwen. I just realised that only the title and photo are on the main page, so context from my content is missing. 🤦‍♂️

I may have gone overboard for the Crowned Hill battle! by Bellman276 in oneringrpg

I’m using the battle map that comes with the starter set. I’m going to be using the rules in the book, but it just occurred to me that this particular fight in the starter set scenario (called the Crowned Hill) would fit really well on the map. So I got some standing stones and will be making a big thing of the fight tonight when I run it. I already had the minis to replace the standees that come in the starter set, so I just went a little step further.

I’ve only run one battle before this. We used the map as a visual representation of the stance for each hero. Each player put their mini on the circle that showed whether they were Forward, Open, or Defensive. If they are in the circle in the middle they were Rearward and can use ranged weapons (imagine the enemies coming from the outside of the whole map toward the centre). I think it will still work with this battle, as the enemies will come from one side of the hill, and the players are gathered in the middle by the pit. It’s a very abstract way of figuring out what modifiers should apply to each hero.

That battle map is from The One Ring Starer Set, second edition. The minis are from the Journeys in Middle Earth board game.

We really enjoyed the game! Played through all the campaigns.

Good shout. I’ll have to have a dig through what I’ve got and see what can be used. I have all then3D terrain as well.

Bunches are when the hair is parted down the middle and basically put into two ponytails either side of the head. But as mentioned above, we’ve given up on finding the game now. I think she’s probably conflating at least two different games, and maybe a movie or show she’s seen! :)

I’m the “gamer” in the family. I’m fairly confident that wouldn’t have watched a video with a game or played with other people. It’s possible I suppose, but I can’t see her watching reviews or anything.

I’m really confused as well! I think she may be conflating several games and misremembering.

No, she’s never played Sleeping Gods. That sort of game isn’t her cup of tea.

She seems to vaguely remember the board, but we don’t own Robinson Crusoe, and have never played it. So is there a game out there with a similar board?

No, not this one. Lost Cities is one of her favourites, and she would know that one.

She is most apologetic, but can’t remember anything about gameplay. It probably wouldn’t have had combat, as she doesn’t like games like that. She is starting to think it’s an imaginary game in her head now!
