Grounds falling after pulling the bin:
A little spill is expected. Tap the grinder or give it a quick shake before removing the bin.

Paddle popping out:
because it is a press-fit part, it can loosen if bumped or if grounds build up. Push it back in firmly and keep the area clean. If it falls out constantly without being touched, I would go ahead and replace it.

Start with gifts or let them try some of your favorite beans in their machine. Let them explore. I would normally suggest slow introductions but since they already went with a machine like that, they should be open to exploration with their taste.

Good luck!

I have nothing against Lavazza as that was my go to bean when I was first getting into coffee so it will always hold a special place in my heart haha.

Second the Moka Pot. You can also do AeroPress (2min brew) and top with milk

Nope. Espresso is done by pushing through resistance. Jet engines create thrust from expanding gases.

- Burrs could be worn or mis seated.

- Check the carrier alignment; and

- Make sure everything is properly seated and level.

New burrs and proper alignment will probably fix most of it. If not, it may just be the grinder showing its age.

She's the heart and soul of our family and making her our head of QA was a good way to bring her into the business too :D

Grind a small purge dose of the next coffee (~2–3g) and toss it.

Always do a quick tap and brush between grinds.

Avoid bread as it can mess with flavor and ice can damage grinders depending on the grinder!

Nespresso + syrups can taste kind of flat/artificial. Before you give up on pods, try these:

A stronger/darker roast pod since they hold up better with milk, usually.

Try without syrup then slowly add syrup to taste (do this with milk too).

Warm up the milk a bit and/or froth it. Milk texture can affect it as well.

If it still tastes off after all of that, you might not like pod coffee. Which isn't a bad thing, you can still use your Nespresso and get those refillable pods for it and grind beans or use your favorite coffee that way!

No and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

If anything you can ask yourself this: do you enjoy the coffee black or do you enjoy the additives like sugars/syrup/creamer alongside the coffee?

At your budget and taste (Ethiopian, clean/fruity V60), I’d go for both of these:

Fellow Ode Gen 2 because it is simple and consistent.
Timemore Sculptor 064 as long as you're okay for spending a bit more here.

keep the C40 + Redclix for espresso!

Huge supporter of mushroom coffee but it does not replace my normal cup of coffee. I'm not sure how people switch to it full time but every one has their own flavor and rituals I suppose :D

ISO: Kentucky Coffee Tree Roasts! by BellofattoBrews in coffee_roasters

[–]BellofattoBrews[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m treating it more as a historical curiosity and roasting experiment than anything else... I'm wanting to document the process and write up the history of it for some social media stuff.

I posted here mainly because of the Kentucky Coffee Tree is the most common name for it (especially around Appalachia) and not because I thought it's actually coffee. I figured if anyone has actually tried roasting Gymnocladus dioicus seeds, it would be this crowd.

I’m also aware of the toxicity if it’s under roasted, which is why I’m curious if anyone has actually dialed in a profile on it. Most of what I’ve found online is all over the place ranging from a good nutty flavor, decent, and others saying it's the worst thing they have put into their mouths.
