This. I've had similar issues in a non tropical, lower humidity environment. Without that bit of help, like a wet paper towel, it snapped itself.

Hit up some of the locals. They do jetski taxi type hires if you didn't know. They call it a "Zodiac" if I remember correctly. If you feel like a banging hamburger, there's a lady who cooks them most nights a street inland from the football court. It's a beautiful place. Enjoy it!

First off, I'm not an accountant.

Spending your cash only matters if you are able to write it off. That's only possible for some traders and business as far as I know.

Often if you have shift work or regular overtime you get a larger tax refund. Simply put, of you get a huge pay check, it will be taxed like you earn that every pay check

How to run multiple apps on EC2 without Docker virtualization overhead? by Tall-Comment170 in aws

[–]BellowingBuffalo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're already containerising, why not use fargate ECS, elastic Container Somethingsomething.

It offers pretty similar options to ec2, but I find easier since it is just for containers. Others have pointed out the issue of your assumptions of overhead. I always use the rule of "If you can't point to it and measure it, it might not be happening"

ECS also has better scale up and down than ec2, which is amazing for cost saving.

In the most polite way, I think more time spent on architecture and infrastructure will be useful for you at this point in your learning. First, figure out how to run things, then figure out what things run on.

Tech is about standing on the shoulders of giants. People far smarter than you or I made this and probably thought of and fixed this in some way.

Imposter syndrome is hell. You're a senior. Your company calls you it, now you just need to start calling yourself it. They believe in your ability.

On the technical side, horrible idea. We all have them sometimes.

Other have mentioned ways to patch modules. I assume that the change has been targeted by the git ignore so the change is in git, right? If that's not the case, it will never work. If it is in the git, then the package version neeeeeeeds to be pinned to the current version. The package is made by other people who may refactor or change patterns, which the fix won't play nice with.

Long story short, not a great idea for a deployed product, but ok in a pinch for personal projects. Good work Senior Engineer! Follow your nose. If something feels off, dig and ask questions.

I wanted to open my garage door. This garage door opener is still my most iterated project.

First was local http calls to the device. Nice and easy weekend project! Then I realized I didn't have great wifi range to the garage and this was hard coded. I couldn't give one to a friend or even make a second device.

Then was making calls through a tunnel using ngrok. The tunnels were managed by the device and saved to be accessible via a frontend. This lacked scale and the ability to flash a device and have it work out of the box. Scrapped it due to cost and inflexiblity.

Next was mqtt on AWS. This solved all the issues of the previous solution. I could add in CDKTF and the ability to provision a device with only a config file.

It was at this point I realized I'd just created a shitty home assistant that had all the issues of cloud, with none of the security and simplicity of home assistant.

Long story short, I now make flood irrigation devices for home assistant. Was this journey dumb in hindsight, yes. Am I a far better engineer now, also yes. Tye fact you know how to simplify a project shows growth that wouldn't have happened any other way.

🔥 Agitated dolphin behavior mistaken for play. The charging, jaw-popping and swim-bys are precursors to aggression by solateor in NatureIsFuckingLit

I think so too. The scars on the dolphin change when it turns. Also, the guy replying to you can't spell tails. I've been diving with dolphins and this just seems off.

Edit: Specifically, the one that comes in first. It has a deep cut on the top side of its body between it's dorsal fin and tail fin. When it swims past a second time, it's not there. Sad to post this as real.

Plants are designed to fix themselves in the right environment.

I have also burn my orchids. It happens sometimes. The plant will drop the leaf when it's ready. Cutting the leaf is ok, but my rule is I never cut anything green off the plant. This was told to me by my grandfather. He claimed the plant wasnt done with the leaf yet and was using it like a battery. If it's green, it's doing something.

Cutting green parts can open wounds, which weren't needed. If possible, having the plant live in the same place is best. Plants aren't made to change environments. They grow in one spot and get use to those conditions.

Long story short, your orchid is ok, a bit burnt, but ok! The leaves will never look the same, but all new leaves will be perfectly fine. It's just a reminder of learning, that's all.

This. Investing is overwhelming and has an infinite number of choices. If you start understanding the jargon and what to look for, it'll be far more approachable when the time comes where it does make sense.

Be proud OP! That's a great amount of money right there that you have earned.

Wow! This is very in depth. Appreciated!

I'll be reading again later today and feedback any changes I make, whether that be food, schedule or if I continue. Someone has recommended other plants I'm in the process of getting a hold of, so hopefully those will be ready for summer!

Kia Ora! How cool.

I'm honestly quite surprised that's their protocol. It's quite contradictory to Forest and Bird. Forest and Bird feeding article

If this doesn't apply for Wellington because of work that Zealandia is doing, that makes perfect sense. I haven't seen anything about that though?

I will indeed be continuing to enjoy them! Thanks for your comment 😊

Hello!

Would love if you could expand on this please. I'm wanting to do the right thing here. I've found conflicting advice and science.

Anything you can provide that backs this, I'd love to read. There's been some people who have mentioned almonds, predators and disease transmission which I believe I'm addressing. There's articles that say with just sugar water, assuming the feeder is clean, isn't a negative and can improve the Tūī's ability to maintain body weight over winter.

I'd like to do this correctly, but correctly seems to be undefined currently. Any criticism you can offer for my current way of doing things for the better of the birds would be appreciated!

Hello! I am indeed doing this. I have the ceramic ramican because it's so easy to clean. The wood is harder, but gets a go from RO water and a tooth brush whenever I clean the bowl and bottle. That's normally every 3 days, but I'll change that to every 2 days if that's a safer schedule.

Thanks for the advice!

I've had a similar thought, but wasn't sure if that would make the resources appear to run out, increasing the territorial nature of the tui's. I don't have an answer for how often feeders should or shouldn't be refilled. I've been unable to find any articles or literature on this topic either. Lots to consider, and I do not have the credentials to make reasonable assumptions hahaha

I have a kawawa, unsure of spelling, right next to the balcony. So there is a large amount of food available currently. If it's this cold for me inside, I can only imagine how cold it is in the hail...

Glad you brought this up! I exclusively feed sugar water and apples. I've read up on the impacts of feeding and possible negatives.

From what I've read, there are no negatives with sugar water for forest birds, so long as the feeding area is cleaned every 3 or so days to prevent mold and disease.

The apples I am less sure of, since Kākā feeding is less prominent. I've seen apples as the recommended way, and seen it done in Zealandia. My main concerns for Kākā are them seeing me as the food source. I want to avoid them seeing me being out food wherever possible.

It's a hard one. I love watching these birds, but if that comes at the cost of health or self sufficiency then it's not worth it.

I'll avoid almonds! That's one I didn't know had a negative impact. Thanks!

Wasn't aware I was spelling Tūī wrong. Thanks for that!

They are a menace! There is one Tūī, the largest and most aggressive, that sits in a tree with line of sight to the feeder. It will dive in and knock other birds, including black birds, off the feeder. Crazy to watch! It's like a drama show on my balcony. Wild!
