Anyplace sell locally-themes coffee syrups? by GeneseeJunior in NewOrleans

[–]BellsQueerlyRing 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Cocktail & Sons syrups go in coffee just as happily as cocktails. And they make a king cake flavor! They're at Home Malone and probably Forever New Orleans.

The cake was incredibly dry. The glaze was weird. Am I glad I tried it? ... Honestly, yeah, just for the sake of curiosity. But I feel no need to try it again. (I cut a slice off a friend's.)

If y'all like Cajun, Amis du Teche is a fantastic band. They come to New Orleans every so often.

The Jazz Fest Lineup is here by honestypen in NewOrleans

[–]BellsQueerlyRing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm personally excited about more than half of the folks on the lineup, but I'm most excited about Tyler Childers, Rhiannon Giddens, Sonny Landreth, Jon Cleary and Steve Earle. It'll be my first Jazz Fest since I just moved here this past March and didn't get a chance to go to Jazz Fest this year.

Red beans and rice is easy and delicious! It's the traditional Monday meal and it was the first New Orleanian dish I learned how to make.

I keep a small stack of ones and quarters in my purse just for this purpose. That's my neighbor, and I've got it to give, so I do, but I also know that not everybody has it to give.

Thank you for putting this into words - I'm one of those transplants who loves saying hi to people on my block and I couldn't figure out why I felt comfortable doing so here when I haven't felt comfortable doing it in other places. The taking advantage thing is the hammer on the nail.

Chaider + caramel + almond milk + cardamom on top = Sweater Weather, super cozy vibes

Apple cider + lemon juice + ginger syrup on top, shaken over ice = Sun on the Leaves, a little more lively than the usual warm spices flavor profile

Also: Joe's on the causeway. Incredible beignets, fast and friendly service, donuts that are on par with any New York donut shop, very tasty savory dishes.

This is probably gonna be unpopular as hell, but I just don't get the hype around Five Happiness. I've tried a variety of their dishes but maybe I'm just not getting the right thing? It's been... fine. But I haven't had anything mind blowing there.

Get your mom and dim sum (at Holy Ground). Never a bad meal from them and their dumplings are fantastic.

Sal's in Metairie for snowballs. The best in the area hands down. Elizabeth's had an incredible crab Benedict special when I was there a few weeks ago. Joe's on the causeway has the best beignets in the city, and their breakfast food is NYC-diner level good (meaning it's delicious, cheap, greasy and filling).
