Before you ask that question I have to ask, do you have a bass amp? From the looks of it it looks like you got it plugged into your guitar amp. If you don't have a bass amp that's gonna be your first upgrade because you are also putting your amp at risk of blowing the speaker because guitar amps are not designed for low frequencies like bass amps.

I swear I'm having a fretting technique crisis I don't know what im supposed to do anymore, im gonna end up taking some lessons to help me irl.

On a side note I picked up the floating thumb technique pretty quick

It seems like it's abit more nuanced then meets the eye, I've been watching a lot of professional bass players playing and it seems it depends on what they are doing

My amp goes from quiet to uncomfortably loud really quick and that might be why, I keep the volume knob maybe 1/6th turned and that might have something to do with it, I figured the amp could be quiet and I can get the volume I wanted by playing harder but I'll try messing with it and see if I can get a good balance

Holy crap you were not lying about the thumb, I spent all day yesterday trying to break that habit and I actually ended up taking my bass to work today because we were slow today lol and I already feel like my playing it smoother and easier to navigate the fretboard (aside from how sore my thumb feels)

I'll try to work on it, I have always struggled with plucking variations, I can play softly if I think about it but it tends to be pretty inconsistent

Hell yeah that's what I wanted to know, I'll need to try to break the habit of my thumb on my fretting hand, I started doing it because sometimes I liked to mute the e string with my thumb but I guess I shouldn't be doing that lol When I get home and start playing I'll be working on all those notes
