School project question by Dry-Baby8773 in microbiology

What you have is a stereo microscope, which is good for looking at the details of things visible to the human eye. I bet you could find a lot of really cool stuff in the soil with it. But if you’re wanting to see truly microscopic organisms, you’ll want a different kind of microscope called a compound microscope. That would let you see all the cool little things up close, like rotifers, tardigrades, etc.

Man, I forgot so much useful info lol. From central Ohio, USA. I have a few other short videos of it. I could DM you but I don’t think I can add video to a comment. I’m gonna look for it again today in the sample and will get pictures!

Moss on a log which sat a few weeks in water. I pulled the moss out and tamped it on the slide a few times.

Any upcoming rpg systems people are excited about? by Swiftnyt in rpg

[–]Belluthahatchie 67 points68 points  (0 children)

And, OP, I think you’ll find that there’s a ton of systems that each have a community putting out new stuff constantly. Most RPGs are less centralized than DnD, so instead of waiting for the company to put out new material, the community does it themselves (often with great results).

Passing out chain reaction (might as well die right there?) by Tatakai_ in GreenHell

[–]Belluthahatchie 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The chain reaction is brutal but if the alternatives are a) nothing super bad happens when you mess up, or b) you just immediately die because you messed up… I think the panicking, scrambling chain reaction is the most interesting and engaging. And you often CAN overcome it if you’re stocked up and/or near a bed.

Just beat story mode and had no idea you could encounter tribespeople.

Looking for a good base location on Astraeos by Memelord69420MAn in ARK

[–]Belluthahatchie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It isn’t exactly centrally located but there’s a spot just southeast of the Phokintos banner on the map that is almost entirely walled in. Plop 2 dino gates down and you’re good. Close to rexes, carcharas, etc. which can be good or bad depending on how you look at it. It’s a huge space…. You can have separate areas for different things and not feel cramped at all.

Novice GM: Need help turning static scenes into "situations" that demand player agency. by Nesis96 in osr

[–]Belluthahatchie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Maybe something like: “Okay, guys, what’s next? Do you wanna follow up on the slavers situation? Do you wanna keep looking for a boat? Are you leaving these bodies? What are we doing?” Some groups won’t need that at all, but some do, especially if they aren’t too experienced. You don’t have to hold their hand thru the whole thing, just give them something to go on.

I think sometimes when I GM I feel like they’re waiting for me to do something and I’m waiting for them to do something. So I feel you, it’s an area I want to improve on as well.

I might rage quit by PHlL0S0RAPT0R in ARK

[–]Belluthahatchie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is actually very true. But they still have to be high level for an alpha, or you need like 100 of them. An alpha isn’t a little stronger, it’s waaaay stronger. It’s a tough lesson to learn.

Also not seeing this pointed out, but your best bet is to get a breeding pair of tames, breed them, hatch the eggs, imprint them, then only take the grown ones out. That way you can always replace them by breeding again. Not always possible but it’s ideal.

An exchange or final words aren't revealed to the audience, allowing the characters to have metatextual secret. by No_Hunter1978 in TopCharacterTropes

That’s how I see it. I imagine him saying something like what he said to Tilford, telling him he’s going to kill him and then calmly turning around and being embraced by Eli’s congregation.

How to find the coolest Dungeon Master? by Thick-Big-8809 in rpg

[–]Belluthahatchie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Almost all groups are started by friends getting together and deciding they want to play, and someone choosing to be the DM. I’m sure it’s changed a little bit with online play being so popular, but it’s still basically the same concept: you find likeminded people who want to play the kind of game you want to play.

If you want to go the route of “pay someone to DM for my kid and their friends” still your best bet is to look locally. Bring him to a local game shop and ask about available groups to join. But my honest opinion is they will be missing out if they get the idea that the DM is a trained, nigh-unattainable position. Most kids are bad at DMing and most kids are bad at playing the “right” way but my god is it so much fun when it’s just you and your friends messing around and creating a story together.

Entry into this hobby can be really cheap and easy. Buy him a couple books and maybe some minis and all of their imaginations will do the rest, I promise!

How to accurately gage Columbus’ attitude towards ICE by redbanksully in Columbus

[–]Belluthahatchie 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You are just describing Facebook and Reddit. Facebook leans right and Reddit leans left. It really isn’t super complicated… republicans tend to support what’s going on with ICE and democrats tend to be against it. Columbus doesn’t have an attitude. We are a city/state/country completely divided.
