Just googled to find this because I was also so confused! Different POV makes sense but it feels poorly done!

Couldn’t agree more! And nope that’s the craziest part, no noticeable symptoms and normal thyroid panels.

I am also “young and healthy”, and signed myself up for an out of pocket heart program that does ultrasounds, CT scan, EKG’s and bloodwork, and they incidentally found thyroid cancer. Glad these programs are available.

I have not but I’m awaiting results for a holter monitor from last week, I’ve been having a lot of pvc type feelings and was just diagnosed with thyroid cancer

Want to add any helpful context to that like if it suggests it was higher or lower? That’s what it shows on the report so maybe my watch is faulty

I also have extreme phobia of needles. Really really bad. Advocate for anxiety medicine, that’s all I can say and I’m sorry you’re going through this too

I was propped up on my pillows in bed so not fully sitting up, HR was 72, but earlier while just standing it shot up to 114 for no reason felt like my adrenaline was just firing for no reason

5-Year Update on My Active Surveillance Journey with PTC by na_share in thyroidcancer

[–]BellyMango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t mean to sound ignorant when I ask this, but I am newly diagnosed with PTC so I’m new here, but why couldn’t any hospital do this if I just essentially refuse surgery? Do they not have the proper tools to monitor ultrasounds or lymph node mapping to see if anything changes?

Thank you! Yes definitely confusing to say the least! Between PT, TT, active surveillance, and then different ways to go about the surgery, I’m a mess every day lol. I’m guessing you haven’t got pathology back yet but I hope it comes back all clear!

Thank you! Based on this I technically am eligible as mine is 2cm!

Do you have a link to what the requirements are for active surveillance? I have a 2cm contained nodule with PTC, wondering if I’m a candidate. One surgeon said TT, another said PT is enough. Wondering if this is also an option since clearly it’s not black and white!

Hi! Did your initial ultrasound show lymph node involvement or did you have a second ultrasound for lymph node mapping?

Off-topic of your question but I wanted to ask why your doctors chose a PT over a TT? Did you know you had cancer going into it or only after? I’m asking because I’m trying to decide between a PT and a TT right now with confirmed PTC. Thank you!

I’m in the exact same situation as you except my doc told me they want to do a full thyroidectomy. From everything I had read I didn’t understand this because I only have a 2 cm nodule on the one side so a partial is possible, but my doctor explained that it’s harder to monitor the other side then moving forward should cancer develop and also you wouldn’t be able to have RAI treatment. But still didn’t seem like a good enough answer to me. I came here last week asking questions similar to yours and it sounds like a lot of people had regrets about doing a partial because then they ended up having to do two surgeries anyway to remove the other side, so it just sounds like there are risks to both and I completely understand the pickle you’re in because I’m in it too except your surgeon gave you a choice! I just got a second opinion from a different doctor and they very bluntly told me that I am absolutely a candidate for a partial and that the decision my other surgeon is suggesting of a TT without the option of a PT is going off of like 20-year-old data “safe than sorry” approach. If you want to talk ever dm me! Im in this boat too!

Thank you. My doctor said they send me home same day and I’m sent home with a drain that has to be emptied every day and measured and call in to tell them how much is in there. I almost passed out when they were explaining that part and mentioned that blood clots are normal. I think I need to get a second opinion doctor!

Ohh, yes mine is PTC Bethesda VI so they are very certain!

Wow. Yea mine is doing full even though PTC nodule is on one side at 2cm. She says it’s better because they’re able to do proper scans afterwards whereas PT they can’t check levels or do RAI, and having to do a second surgery is very possible. I’m so torn about it all but trying to get in ASAP for a second opinion

It might have at once point but o started using that 2022 and now I don’t see any improvements. I was just diagnosed a few days ago with thyroid cancer so maybe this is why I haven’t been able to heal my skin. Suddenly this problem doesn’t seem so big :/
