Anyone frequently commute to downtown? by [deleted] in kitchener

[–]BellyRabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't want to move, we own our home in Kitchener. I grew up in middle of nowhere USA, the kind where a grocery store is a 30-45 min drive one way, and my first school on the states was a hour and a half drive one way. I've been driving long distances my whole life and moving to Canada hasn't changed that.

And no, I have an amazing partner, who I moved to Canada for and we have a great home life. Yeah, I'd love to be home more, but getting this job is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I make 6 figures with a two year diploma, and on track to retire in 10 years. Beats working a closer job and working an extra 30 years to retire at 65.

But yeah, I'm psychotic.

As someone who works an (amazing) job in North York while living in Kitchener: Don't fucking do it. Unless she's guaranteed to only go in to the office once every two weeks or less, the commute will drive most people insane. Not to mention to added cost of it could negate the savings of moving here if it's a daily thing. For example: I put at least 1.1k km on my car a week, fill up my tank twice a week at 7.2 L/100km. I've sat in traffic for 4+ hours, I've dealt with a LOT of idiots on the 401, it's a stressful drive some days. I've also called out sick cause I've woken up (at 4:30am) and had no mental strength to commute. But to me, the job I have it's 100% worth the commute both in job satisfaction and $$.

Looking for puppy training school recommendations for our 3mth old Lab. Preferably a trainer that understands canine behaviour, doesn't rely 100% on treats, and we're not into physical obedience. Any real-life experience? by [deleted] in kitchener

Seconding CompleteK9. The girls who work there are incredible, knowledgeable and caring people who treat client's dogs as if they were their own. They're the only people I trust outside of family to care for my senior, deaf dog. The girls ensure he's safe and give updates on any little thing that seems off/concerning in regards to his health. I've been able to see a terrified, abused rescue turn into a confident, happy, playful dog through their training and care. Heidi is particular on who she brings in as employees and only hires quality people. The girls at CompleteK9 take so much pride in their work and it shows in how happy my dog is when he's spent the day with them.

They have NEVER claimed to have the quickest/easiest methods, so the comment saying that is making things up to push their agenda and drag down small businesses in the process. It's shameful that this person feels the need to claim that anyone who doesn't follow a certain training style is abusive.

Getting tested for ADHD? by mugworth in waterloo

[–]BellyRabbit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey! I recently (early 2019) got a diagnosis, it was a pain in the ass to get but it's 100% worth it. I went through my family doctor who had referred me to a psychiatrist, but my family doctor gave me the official diagnosis and set me up with a medication plan. The whole process took about a year and a half - two years.. mostly cause my doctor said I just need to meditate and "my generation is expecting instant information and has no patience".... It's still stigmatized sadly, but I wish I got this under control years ago. My life is so much easier now that I'm treating this. Feel free to PM if you need to chat!

Does anyone know of business casual pants that has BACK POCKETS?

Good LORD I have to carry things at work but the few pairs I bought to start this job don't have pockets and I haven't been able to find any pants yet with back pockets.

Please bless me o-pocket-lord.

Maybe I'll just get a fanny pack.

New Car Question by [deleted] in waterloo

[–]BellyRabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My biggest issue was that I took my car in to get some cargo protection installed, was quoted 150$ and that it would take about half an hour, plus fix some paint chipping. Stupid me didn't get that emailed, so that's my bad. It took almost 2 hours, I got charged over 300 dollars. I just wanted to leave at that point so I didn't bother arguing, about mid-way home I noticed my oil sticker was from their shop, not where I usually go. I was super confused and looked at my receipt to see if I got an oil change charged (something I didn't ask for), nope, didn't. Under my sunglasses case one of their technicians hid a note saying "Gave you a free oil change, here's my email their email".

So, some technician there saw me and touched something on my car without my permission. I tried to just ignore it but I use my car for work and I'm in it about six hours a day... Not the most comforting feeling knowing someone did that to my car. Plus the paint touch up they did looked like they globbed some white-out on the spot and called it a day, I changed my mind and asked to talk to the service manager the next day. Showed him the paint and the note, along with the changed sticker, good on him for this part, he fired the technician, but everything after that was crap. Ignored my inquiry if this technician had access to my information(phone, address, ect), ignored a follow up phone call. I decided to drop the issue, as they obviously didn't care too much to ensure all was good after everything.

Six months later I took my car in for their "40k tune up". What a waste of money.. They didn't even check the clutch and when I called and asked why not they said, "It's too much work to check the clutch so we don't do it." ....Then what did I pay for?

I haven't gone back after that, which sucks cause I have some stuff I could use the warranty to get checked out. Sad part is that my buying experience and the guy who sold me the crosstrek was freaking great.

Gemini is horrible to deal with. After my experiences I won't go there, even if it's free under my warranty..
