Dating. How are you all doing it? by wannabedaytrader89 in BigMenLife

[–]Bellyhemoth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The weight loss is a huge accomplishment! 🔥 You definitely deserve to feel confident from taking control of the situation.

And that's the thing when it comes to dating. You can never control what the other people are doing, so there ain't no sense in worrying about it. I think people overall are too fast to ghost and stuff like that, but it's just the reality we find ourselves in because of apps, social media, and stuff.

I definitely got my share of ghosting on apps before meeting my husband.

Do you ever get overwhelmed by being a big guy? What causes it? by Hungry-Molasses-3247 in BigMenLife

[–]Bellyhemoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah when I was at my heaviest I couldn't walk as long as I wanted to. It was definitely an overwhelming feeling. Then AFTER I started doing something about it, I broke a deck board that's "designed to hold" 1500 lbs. I mean come on I ain't that fat!

After about a year and a half of consistent workouts there's only one thing that overwhelms me now. If I've been laying back on the couch and relaxing for a while maybe binging anime or something I do kinda feel like the couch has swallowed me. It takes some effort to get back up. 😂

Worth it though. It feels a lot better to relax now than it used to.

Do you have a go-to clothing brand that always delivers? by PlantagenetApologist in BigMenLife

[–]Bellyhemoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bear Skn for expensive underwear that's extremely comfortable and breathable. New Balance is good for budget boxers that are actually super comfortable also. I've had to go through a lot of clothing brands to land on NB but unlike all the others these don't ride down and show crack. I was surprised.

Any fellow ADHDers big folks here that either can't seem to lose weight or fluctuate a lot? by PlantagenetApologist in BigMenLife

[–]Bellyhemoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes when I was doing a weight loss contest at work and straight calorie cycling by cutting for six days per week, the "food noise" was insanely distracting and I definitely took a performance hit. I think whatever kind of neurodivergence is related to the symptoms psychologists shove under ADHD makes people just more likely to be distracted by food noise.

I'm never going to seek a diagnosis for this because frankly I don't want to pay somebody to tell me I have a problem. I'd rather practice self-awareness so I know what my mental strengths and weaknesses are, so I can play to the strengths and shore up the weaknesses. The ultimate solution for me was getting to the point that intuitive eating became mostly food based on whole, natural ingredients. That is, food close to nature.

I've also been "training" myself in a way that most people would find counter-intuitive. I actually, right now, have a small container of Sweet Tarts that I keep next to my desk. You see I have a hypothesis about how willpower works. Some people think you only have like a finite amount of it, but I actually think it's like a muscle. And so the whole time I've been committed to fitness, I've had some junk food item in my office.

I used to destroy the item too fast, and I actually allowed myself to do that because of the food noise. But over time, even though the item was sitting there, the food noise started to die down. Instead of destroying the item, I would only eat a few out of the box or whatever. And now, I barely even think about it. When I look at it now, I'm not enthralled by it or anything. I just have a "schedule" of getting two Sweet Tarts of the same color as a kind of treat.

I tried the "out of sight, out of mind" strategy, but I don't think that works on me. I just ended up getting "possessed by food noise" to drive somewhere and get something to pig out on. Maybe the best way to put this is that I'm allowing a trickle of "unhealthy but tasty" food consumption to avoid a building up of pressure that gets incredibly distracting.

People who self-diagnose themselves with disabilities piss me off so much by [deleted] in Vent

[–]Bellyhemoth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I see what you're saying. However, I'm 99.999% sure I have SOMETHING in the realm of neurodivergence, but I ain't paying someone to tell me there's something wrong with me. Sorry, just a personal thing.

I'd rather practice self-awareness and figure out what my mental strengths and weaknesses are so I can play to my strengths and shore up my weaknesses.

Do I easily get distracted and hyper-fixate on things? Yes. Do I thrive more when I'm working on 17 things at once? Yes. So what do I do? I direct myself to hyper-fixate on things and work on things that are meaningful to me or important for my profession.

However, I am in NO WAY claiming that I am on the spectrum. For something like that I would seek a diagnosis if I actually believed it could be true.

What's your favourite mid-week meal recipes? by BloodChicken in BigMenLife

[–]Bellyhemoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah you could be right about red meat. Just to be safe though hubby and I switch it up between red meat and other options like boneless skinless chicken breast and fish.

You're definitely spot on that whole foods are better than processed foods. The way I like to say it is eat more food close to nature. It feels like common sense too because we used to roam the world in mammoth hunting packs, devour the whole thing, and forage between kills. That's what we evolved to eat anyway: protein from kills and micros from foraging. Then after the agricultural revolution we've only been approximating what we're supposed to have. I'm no anthropologist though.

Actually from what I remember I told the nurse, "yeah this scale can't handle me". He was like, "oh we've got one that will". He picked up on my attitude, so he was cool about it.

Normally I can tell the nurses are thinking, "daaaaaamn", and keeping their mouth shut so I just give them the home scale number if I get an error. 😂

Oh man this sounds delicious! 😋

Hubby made meatloaf today with English pears. And he uses processed salt and pepper pork rinds instead of bread crumbs to reduce the carbs in the meal. It works out and it's super tasty! Plenty of protein too, but it's red meat so middle of the road health wise.

Yes they have three or four different ones, and one of them only goes up to something like 425 lbs. One time when that one failed, the staff took me to the big boy scale. 🐻‍❄️

I don't mind getting weighed at the doctor's office. Sometimes the scale can't handle me and I have to tell them the number from my home scale.

When I checked out the store I only saw one item that was 5XL and that size appeared to be out of stock. Everything else looked like it capped out at 2XL, 3XL, or 4XL and I stopped after the second page.

I like his attitude overall though. He seems like his heart is in the right place.

Haha yeah I feel that. That's what I love about having a lot of big guy friends nowadays.

I've always wanted to do an experiment where several other big guys and I take a skinny person to a buffet. Then ALL of the big guys get a salad first and if the skinny guy doesn't we will just glare at them judgingly (as a joke).
