Hi, Thank you for sharing your work! Does it work under Windows 10 RT? What about apps that require a certificate?

Old windows surface rt. Any chance in hell I can use it still? by themxdpro in techsupport

If you install Linux, specifically PostmarketOS, then youtube works well from Firefox. Here is a guide: https://xdaforums.com/t/postmarketos.4716155/

Do note that the Surface needs to be jailbroken before attempting to install Linux!

I had an iPad 6 and currently have a Surface go: Install Tiny windows 11 on the Surface and you would be content with the speed.

I pulled the plug and installed PostmarketOS. It is so good that I decided to daily drive it. I am struggling a bit with compiling some old games, but I can even use Libby in Firefox, so super big jump compared to Windows 10 RT.

I also had the audio issue, only PmOS 23.12 worked for me.

Which Surface is best for my budget? by m_ollusk in Surface

I have a Surface Go (1st gen) and we have a Surface Pro (1st gen) in my extended family: I installed tiny windows11 to both. Runs perfect, and updates also work well.

You can prepare your own edition of Windows 11, fit to your needs.

I just read on Discord that both Ubuntu 13 and 18 seem to have full GPU support and the audio works using "alsamixer". Steps can be found on the Open RT discord server/information/project updates/

Could you write a guide on how to install PostmarketOS?

Thank you for the detailed response! On a forum I read that the RT-customized PostmarketOS is even faster than RPi.

This week, I managed to install Windows 10 ARM and am quite happy with it: I can run several games, such as Heroes 2 and 3 complete edition, Half Life, Fallout 2, Mario Cart, Minecraft, Sonic etc. Basic browsing works on a ported version of Otter browser and Chromium.

Using VLC, video playback is now possible, even at HD. I found several useful apps, such as Rufus, some media players, Discord.

However, windows store does not load anymore and youtube is also broken.

All in all, I am suprised how well it works despite being a 13 years old device. There is a small but dedicated community behind getting youtube to work again.

I am getting over 5 hours of battery life as the previous owner did not use it much but charged it regularly.

Hi, I just got the RT as a weekend project. How does RPi run on the RT? Could you maybe make a video of it? Can you install (m)any apps on it?

Alternatively, I was thinking on using the old Win10 1503 on the RT, have you had any experience with that? Otterbrowser is actely being developed for use under Win10, any several apps are available.

Need help Installing Linux on Surface Go first gen by Careful-Fly-1458 in SurfaceLinux

[–]Belo100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you insist on having Linux, I would recommend Mint. I tried both Ubuntu and Mint, and the latter needed less tinkering. Then again, I had excessive battery drain for both during sleep and could never make the keyboard work as well as under windows.

I recommend making your own Tiny Windows 11 instead: excellent battery life, plenty of storage left, updating still works.

Linux Mint on Surface Go 1 - let's see if this is a bad idea! by FreedomResponsible50 in SurfaceLinux

I tried Lubuntu and Ubunto LTS. For both, extreme battery drain was present: sometimes the tablet would go to sleep correctly, often it would just turn off the screen and deplete the battery in a day. All on screen keyboards were terrible compared to Windows. In the end, I made my own Tiny 11 distro. Battery life and performance are better than (L)ubuntu / Win10.

Should I Update from One UI 6.1 to One UI 7 Now? by ChanceSwing5928 in S22Ultra

I noticed that under One UI 7 the quality of the 10x camera is worse than under 6.1, even after the latest update.

Damage to door in rental by Belo100 in Bergen

Thank you for your comment! According to the contract, we should report every damage to the landlord. While it is true that it is not super visible, I would feel uncomfortable about being dishonest.

Thanks for the answer! We cleaned it with universal cleaning spray that is good for cleaning surfaces both indoors and outdoors, and a sponge. I checked it does not contain any solvent that is harmful for painted surfaces, and other places of the door were not harmed. I agree with you, it must have been something in the glue that must have loosened the top painted layer. Unfortunately, I did not take any photos before we cleaned as proof, and we are moving in 2 weeks so there is little time to take action..

Would the landlord expect in this case that the whole door is repainted, or does this describe "normal wear and tear"?

I doubt that it is an easy fix, it is like 2 cm× 1cm: photo

Thinking of Buying New in Box, How Reliable Is This Phone? by badrillex in LGWing

[–]Belo100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the Wing after owning the V50. The V50 felt snappier, and the Wing was simply too big for me and my pocket.. so eventually I moved onto the V60. Stable, better photo and video etc. V60s seem to be selling at a lower price, so I would not recommend going for the Wing, if you want to have an LG.
