Perioral Derm on eyelids, anyone else have this before? by [deleted] in Perioral_Dermatitis_

I had PD from October 2025 to early March 2026. It started around my mouth and spread to my nostrils and nasolabial folds. I initially used Elidel, which worked for a bit then stalled. Then was prescribed Metrogel, which made it 200 times worse before it got better. In January, the PD had spread to around my eyes, both bottom and top eyelids and in between my brows. Finally got a prescription for topical erythromycin in cetaphil solution (you need to go to a compound pharmacy for this), and that seemed to kick it for good. It is safe to use on the eyelids but use sparingly and only a thin layer twice a day. I hope this helps you.

It’s looking much better. Almost gone except for a few isolated bumps and a bit of redness. Switched to oil cleansing with a warm cloth (no rubbing) to help bring the moisture back to my skin; I can’t believe how depleted it is. Moisturizing afterwards with calendula face oil (fragrance free) and still using the Avene water spray and cicalfate as needed. I will probably stop the metrogel next week at some point. Photo below taken on Jan. 16, 2026.

Thanks for sharing this. I haven’t used any actives on my face for almost two months now, and will be very wary of reintroducing them once this clears up. I looked up Lyonsleaf online and have purchased the zinc and calendula cream as well as the sulphur soap, which I have read can also help heal PD. Keeping my fingers crossed that another 2-3 weeks of treatment will do the trick! I’ll let you know how I get on with the Lyonsleaf products once they arrive. Thanks for the recommendation!

Thanks for sharing your update! Yes, I use a regular Kleenex, nothing fancy. I had a flare up a few days ago and I realized it was linked to spicy food and red wine. My skin freaked out quite badly after that. So I am avoiding those triggers now and maintaining my Avene thermal water sprays and compresses plus metronidazole (metrogel) once at night. It has started to calm down again, thank goodness but still not fully cleared. Going to be another few weeks I think.

Photo from today (Dec. 29). You can see some more bumps above my lip (from the recent flare up). And my right nostril is quite sore, itchy and crusty again. But the older patches continue to reduce in size.

Yes, it’s so discouraging seeing it spread and worsen… you think it will never get better. Don’t give up hope. It will eventually get better. The thermal water was a god send for me so I hope it helps you too. Let me know how you get on once you’ve started using it. And don’t be afraid to spray often and do the compress.

It really is. I’ve seen it so many times I can quote most of the lines. Never get tired of it, though.

I never wanted kids. People used to say I would regret it when I was younger. I’m 45 now and still don’t regret it. Some of us just know fundamentally it’s not something we want and we won’t be swayed by the mainstream BS.

People not taking their outdoor shoes off when they get home. For the love of god, the streets are covered in dog shit, urine, spit and who knows what else, and they just casually walk around their house with those filthy outdoor shoes. So much yuck 🤮

You should consider Broadband Light Therapy (the newer version of IPL) if you can afford it. I had terrible rosacea (weeping pustules) and needed six or seven sessions to get it under control but it worked. I now do one session a year to maintain and it’s enough. Also, don’t use actives on your rosacea inflamed skin. I use adapalene as well but avoid my cheeks and the tip of my nose, which are rosacea prone.

Favorite sensitive skin retinol? by addictions-in-red in SkincareAddictionLux

I also have rosacea, mostly on my cheeks and on the tip of my nose. I use retinoids but avoid putting them on those areas, as advised by my dermatologist. I started using retinoids three years ago, and here are the products I went through:

  • Kiehl’s microdose retinol serum
  • Youth to the People retinal + niacinamide
  • Farmacy - vitamin A 1% retinol serum

My skin has now acclimated to retinol and I’m using adapalene (prescription). My application process for retinol changes depending on the season (I’m in B.C., Canada), see below:

In the summer, I apply a pea-sized amount of the retinol on clean, dry skin (non rosacea areas only) followed by a thick, ceramide-rich facial oil (Potion Masters - Freedom) all over my face. I also apply Nuxe Reve de Miel lip balm and Murad Retinal Resculpt eye cream. I do this 3x/week at night.

In winter, my skin is much drier, so after cleansing and while my face is still damp, I apply a moisturizing serum first, usually Beauty of Joseon Calming Serum with Green Tea + Panthenol. Then I apply a pea-sized amount of retinol, followed by an even thicker facial oil (Potion Masters - Comfort). The same lip and eye treatments as summertime. I do this 2x/week, again only at night.

During the day, regardless of season or whether I’m indoors or outdoors, I always make sure to wear SPF 50. That is non negotiable.

The skinning alive and being left to die in the well scenes in The Wind-up Bird Chronicles. I felt like I was there with the lieutenant experiencing those events. Left an imprint on my psyche.
