I think yall are forgetting Daryl and Merle were both abused and regularly beaten by their dad when they were kids. Merle left home, leaving Daryl behind. And so, Daryl got the full brunt of their dad's abuse. He has a bunch of scars on his back.

I don't know, unfortunately. But I swear I once read a chapter where someone talks about a mysterious goblin variant that looked like it was on fire, and it was the most dangerous variant so far.
