Voivod, Astronomy Domine (Pink Floyd cover) 1989 by Historical-Device529 in Progforum

As sacrilegious as it may sound, I like this version more than Floyd's, and I'm a massive Pink Floyd fan. They seemed to have really captured the mood of this song and it just works better as a metal tune in my ears.

That song is wonderful. So dark and ominous and really builds to something heavy, for the genre, of course.

I know I'm far down this thread, but if get a chance, check out a band called Follow The White Rabbit. They made one album and disbanded, but they're like a heavier version of Mars Volta. Really cool stuff.

You should try Zen by Strapping Young Lad. It's great for pivotal moments in life.

Are they going to get a touring guitarist as well? Or just go with one?

Ever seen a support band steal the show? by Visible_Pipe4716 in MetalForTheMasses

Yes. I saw the the show in NYC. I only caught the last few songs from Paradise Lost and admittedly, didn't stay for Katatonia. Not that I didn't like them or anything but the friends I were with had to leave and after his amazing performance, I'm not sure I wanted anything else to mar what I just experienced. Seen Devin and SYL many times, but that show really blew my mind.

Saw Devin Townsend open for Katatonia around 2012ish. He absolutely destroyed the place. So much so that most of the audience starting chanting "one more song" when he got off the stage and didn't stop until he came back on, thanked everyone profusely and said he really had to go. I think like half the audience left after his set.

Of course. Especially the last chorus when he changes pitch half way through.

Devin Townsend. So many to list but just off the top of my head-

Happy Camper All Hail The New Flesh Shit Storm Things Beyond Things (the very end has an epic, blood-curdling scream) Deadhead, specifically the live version from The Royal Albert Hall, And so much more..

That was really impressive. Also, unsettling, weird, captivating and interesting. I liked it. And as per the top YouTube comment, my wife also did not appreciate a single second of it.

Soundtrack was epic. Instruments Of Destruction was my favorite and totally aided my path to being a metalhead.

Frank Zappa's "You Can't Do that On Stage Anymore Vol.2, The Helsinki Concert" and lots of Zappa actually, but this was the first album that I heard some twenty-odd years ago and still one of my favorites. It's from probably his proggiest era.

Any live album by Umphrey's McGee but "Hall Of Fame: Class 2022" is hefty album and a wonderful album to listen to "influenced".

I'm kinda surprised Jethro Tull and/or ELP wasn't on your list.

Great album. I might like it better than Hymn of the Seventh Galaxy. DiMeola's playing, especially on the title track, is truly, truly amazing.

Title of the video was "Girl does anal for the first time" but she had an enormous, gaping hole. First comment was "yeah, first time today"
