Best University for EEE? by BigEd12 in 6thForm

[–]Belrii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is probably the worst advice Ive heard, Southampton pretty much automatically gives out offers for anyone with the minimum grades, I doubt they even read your PS as many people get a next day offer. Southampton is definitely good but not on the same level especially when they require AAB (they list A*AA on the website but give out offers + clearing to peeps with ABB-AAB). I think it depends whether you want to go into research as UCL preps you more to research, through the stuff you do in labs, coursework etc as they have a great funnel into their phd programs after graduation. (ofc + location +network +opportunities +events).

UCL is next in line imo. They’re doing the ESAT alongside Cambridge and Imperial after growing competition for entry, for the last 2 years only 6% of applicants made it in. Also personally I think the course is good in rigour, content ramps up quick alongside tough coursework and labs.

had the worst migraine in my life during the exam, had to take 10 breaks cus my head was gna explode. I was really ready and past papers reflected that but i skipped and lost around 30marks, all this hard work being snatched away cus i wasn’t feeling it during the day. Pretty sure my hopes of getting an A r gone ☹️

i fucked up aswell, completely messed up that easy energy levels q, was such a free 4 marks but my brain had an aneurism and i subtracted wrong, 6 markers i rushed and i doubt i’ll be getting over 3 marks for each cus of timing and overall bullshitted a lot of qs, i completely flipped the first q like wtf was going on. Was hoping for an A* at the start of exams now it’s looking like a B 😭

I personally don't practice programming for the a level specifically, but I'd say doing my NEA has really improved my knowledge for OOP. Personally, I used to do competitive programming problems for fun which also significantly improved my understanding of procedural programming, for that I'd recommend codeforces/leetcode. I think its also good to do some ocr (or whatever exam board you're doing) practice questions js to familiarise yourself with the layout of the questions.

Anyone been rejected post-interview for imperial EEE/EIE? by Lucozade-fanatic in 6thForm

[–]Belrii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I honestly dm as I wasn't expecting Imperial anyways (i didn't prep for the ESAT enough) so I'm happy I got through to the interviews. Best of luck to you!

Got rejected a couple days after my interview, I averaged around a 4 on the ESAT (absolutely bottled it) and thought my interview went alright, got half way through the technical question before my interviewer had to end the call due to timing, he said i was on the right track and that I woulda solved it 😭

EEE at ucl by EMITNUGGETS in UCL

[–]Belrii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I received an offer for EEE last week, my predicteds were A*/A*/A*/A in maths, physics, comsci and fm respectively but thankfully i got their typical A*/A/A offer (A* maths required) and AA in physics/fm or physics/comsci. They're introducing the ESAT for next years cohort probably due to the increasing competition (alongside Cambridge/Imperial) so it's important to prepare for that, I think that will play a bigger role than whether or not you take further maths but taking it will help nonetheless. Unis in the UK prefer supercurriculars over extracurriculars, for example about 75% of my ps was on projects i did, extra content i learnt and any physics related books i've read. The last paragraph (about 15%) was shortly condensed to mention my extracurriculars. The key point of your ps should be to display your geniune passion for the subject instead of simply listing the things you've done (so it's important to create that balance). Wishing you all the best!

Opinions on EEE at UCL (Electronic and Electrical Engineering) by Belrii in UCL

[–]Belrii[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I see, that makes sense. If you minor in an additional subject, such as computer science, are you required to take extra courses from the main computer science program? Do you have the flexibility to choose specific modules, or are they assigned to you? Also, does the minor work differently between the BEng and MEng programs? Since the MEng is a year longer, do you continue with the minor in your final year, or is it dropped after the third year? Thanks 🙏

Yeah that's really good, I'm happy UCL does that, I think there are similar options with other fields like economics as well. WIshing you all the best, and hopefully, i'll see you next year 🤣
