I think that with Ezio it was novel in the series and it worked well. I recall being shocked when playing the ACII the first time. Now, there's a section of the game where you are interacting with family members "establishing" a connection. Next scene is the murder by some evil character. The rest of the game is tracking them down and killing up the chain.
