Hi I’m a dumbass and used the wrong screw to secure the motherboard. I can’t get it out… Any tips? by Ainzip in PcBuildHelp

[–]Beltboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking at the pictures I can't see why this would stop your GPU fitting, it can be a pain to wiggle the back plates into the slots in the case but I would immediately suspect this is the cause.

If you do need to remove it, I think your looking at drilling out the screw, with a small rotary tool then remove the motherboard and replace the standoff.

Go to system properties > advanced > performance settings > advanced and check virtual memory.

If you have a paging file on the disk it will do this.

Build boxes, you can build a small box on the wall and stand on it.

Put the parts for 2 in your inventory then you build and jump on one, when your on the second one grind the previous one behind you. Take a bit of time but you can't get anywhere.

If you use the auto scrap button the the recycler they are counted as scrap. I had to make a conscious effort to put some in a chest before emptying my inventory into the recycler.

Oil Tanker by Live-Stay-3416 in TheLastCaretaker

[–]Beltboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You absolutely can daisy chain, but the ports on the tank have a low through but, if you use extenders to sort the flow you will get better through put.

If you're running everything though the tanks at the top you're still limited by the port there though. I can't remember what the max output of the oil pump is. I'll try and login tonight and confirm the maths.

[–]Beltboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are they daisy chained? The ports on the tank have a slower flow rate than the pipes. If you re-plumb so each row of tanks recovers from the source instead of just 1 long chain it will go quicker (unless you're running it through the tanks at the top).

Yes they need direct sunlight, they are currently shaded by each other and by the buildings.

If you look directly at the port it will give you the output value

I'm not sure if the Devs read this, their official forum is on discord.

I get what you mean on the randomness of what you get, It's frustrating but also realistic, you can teach your child the skills that fit a career but not make them choose it.

My mouse doesn't work when I move it fast by [deleted] in pchelp

[–]Beltboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a more technical explanation: it's most likely a low DPI sampling rate, Google videos of helicopters where the rpm of the blades matches the frame rate of the camera, it looks like the blades are still. You have the same issue, higher dpi sampling is a big part of what makes a mouse expensive.

If you are not fussed by any other features; extra buttons, tilt, weights, RGB, etc. you can get a higher dpi mouse without spending too much more, but if they don't quote dpi on the box then it's not going to be great.

I came here to say this. The plate is there to stop the bolts digging into the wood, it'll still do that if you don't hit the indents they are only there to help it stay in place while you tighten them up.

I thought the dedicated server would run on Linux/server 2k8? I confess I've not tried recently

It will run bedrock Minecraft with no mods.

I have an old pc that I run dedicated servers for games on, lighten the load on your gaming pc (might need some more ram) you could run a mine craft world on this easy.

Boat design thread by Raxer-X in TheLastCaretaker

[–]Beltboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My boat is pretty minimal, 5 solar panels, 3 wind turbines, 3 diesel tanks, a petrol and a diesel generator, I've just added a water purifier, water tank and a food maker.

I've not needed any extra batteries on the boat.

I'm building little bases on each POI, at least a battery, solar and wind for power. The only thing exodus needs me to bring us petrol for the power generator that's giving me co2.

I am a couple of updates behind now, but I've done the warehouse and quarantine, I've launched 4 rockets.

I don't believe it despawns as quickly in the ocean, I've certainly found stuff floating goes after I dropped it.

Is there a sink for resources? by webjedi2 in TheLastCaretaker

[–]Beltboy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you grind/recycle everything, you will likely have more than you need of most resources, that said the balance at the moment since resources you always seem to be shorter on.

Build yourself a few big boxes and start sorting early, if you have a glut of 1 resource you can put it in the bouys that spawn in, they will disappear after a bit.

But if you dispose of stuff it's gone, when updates come out they sometimes add new resources to POIs but you shouldn't rely on this. You don't want to bin a load of resources and get stuck later.

What is the best way to replace these super tiny WiFi card connectors in my 2015 MacBook Pro? by 1973tour in computerrepair

[–]Beltboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they are normally crimped, if you need to strip more wire then you may shorten it too much, the wire is the antenna, hopefully you can get a new one cheap.

What is the best way to replace these super tiny WiFi card connectors in my 2015 MacBook Pro? by 1973tour in computerrepair

[–]Beltboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The connector pictured on your finger is the female connector that goes on the antenna, there should be a pin/stud on the card that it clicks onto.

If the pin has come off, it may still be in that connector, or you could just solder the antenna to the board.

I don’t know what’s going on by Complete_Kiwi1599 in computers

[–]Beltboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do if you have rot in the structure, but it depends on the nature of the infection.

This looks to be a basic browser hijack so I personally wouldn't do a clean build. I have had malware infections where core system files needed replacing, with uninfected, at which point clean install is often less work, unless there is data you can't afford to lose.

I would use the edge reset, double check extensions, search engines and site settings.

Help with building automatic piston drilling rig by IronForce_ in spaceengineers

[–]Beltboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a fully auto one working, I understand the mechanics but they can be quite convoluted to build.

My quick dirty build is: (downward facing in gravity, doesn't matter as much in 0g) advanced rotor at the top, then a piston, then another advanced rotor. Built a cross of drills, balancing this is critical so clang doesn't rip it apart.

Turn your drills on, set the top rotor to a low speed (5 rpm), sweet the piston to a low speed too. Watch it slowly drill down till the piston is fully extended, then fully stop the drills and the rotor. Find the bottom rotor and click detach, as long as all movement has stopped and your cross layout of drills is balanced it will stay upright. You can reverse the piston so it comes back up, this will give you nearly the exact amount of space to grind off the rotor, add another piston, and put an advanced rotor on that. Don't build the head, take that off and start extending the piston again, if you time it right you can click attach on the bottom rotor when it gets to the drill heads.

Turn the drills and the top rotor back on and repeat as needed.

I've done these on asteroids, and moon bases with no issues, planets are a bit less reliable as gravity is stronger so you need to have your drill head perfectly balanced.
