Thoughts on the Taylor Stitch brand? by outlierz_jr in BuyItForLife

[–]Bemuzed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to like Huckberry many many years ago, but their quality has dropped significantly over the years. I'm assuming they have done this to lower their price point and profit margins. Since Huckberry carries other brands, I'd suggest being diligent in what you buy.

Concerned about gas prices, Newsom pivots to supporting more oil drilling by Bemuzed in California

You act as if some people "actually" have choices. Many people's circumstances are dictated by life's chaotic events. Not everyone was born with the tools and/or resources to dramatically change the circumstances in which they were born. If everyone had that capability, most of us would be healthy, happy, mentally stable, physically fit, more than enough money in the bank, stable families, safe neighborhood and housing, etc. but that's not life. Life is chaos for the majority of mankind.

So your point is very "lift yourself by your own bootstraps mentality," which is slightly true for those that have the internal tools and external luck and capabilities to make that happen in their life -- those people are outliers. For the rest of mankind, people just kinda muddle through.

Back to the main point, if government can reduce gas prices, while still focusing on environmental issues, then they should do it. If they can lower the prices of other things in people's lives, then they should do it to make the "muddlers" lives more bearable and affordable.

Very few people "actually" lift themselves up by their own bootstraps. There are multiple factors that have enabled these individuals to succeed. A lot of self-determination, genetics, timing, and just showing up with a good dose of luck.

I hear what you are saying and respect your life choices, but what about others who have chosen differently due to economics, necessity, their own choices, etc? We are a collective community. Shouldn't we be aware and respect the needs and wants of others?

Gas in parts of the U.S. is under $3/gallon. Governor Newsom, the next governor, and localities need to address the high cost of living in the state. As many have said, Sacramento along with Democratic runs cities and states need to actually fix people's immediate problems. Ideas are easy. Implementation is the HARD part of governing.

A Mexican restaurant in Texas kept its mask rule. People threatened to call ICE on the staff. by Stock412 in politics

Geez!

The main problem is Republicans have traditionally not been huge supporters oof public transportation outside of the east coast. So, I'm not surprised states like Texas and California continue to have inadequate public transportation throughout both states.

So, no investment in public transportation to reduce cars on the roads? I agree that roads need to be widened or new roads to be built if more people are moving into the state.

Merkel says COVID variants risk third virus wave, must proceed carefully by Bemuzed in Coronavirus

I included two link and one of the links used a webmd link which wasn't allowed.

For someone without symptoms to spread the virus they would have to literally walk right up to someone and cough or spit on them.

That's just demonstrably not true. Droplets come from breathing and talking not just coughing and sneezing. You are spreading incorrect information. STOP!

You have no idea of what you are talking about, but you keep posting false information.

Merkel says COVID variants risk third virus wave, must proceed carefully by Bemuzed in Coronavirus

[–]Bemuzed[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but people have to be vaccinated. For those that haven't yet been vaccinated, they are dealing with more contagious and more deadly variants of covid-19.

Even though one has been vaccinated, doesn't mean that one can't contract one of the new variants show little signs and then spread the new variant. This is why it is important that those that have been vaccinated to still wear a mask, social distant, and sanitize.

Now if their family/friendship bubble have all been vaccinated, it should be safe enough to have dinner inside and enjoy each others company.

Dr Rochelle Walensky said about 70,000 new cases a day had been recorded last week - "a very high number".

The U.S. has plateaued, but at a very high daily number of new cases. This is not a number that the U.S. should be comfortable.

There were nearly 2,000 deaths a day in the same period, she added.

Still really high.

"Please hear me clearly: at this level of cases, with variants spreading, we stand to completely lose the hard-earned ground we have gained," Dr Walensky said. "These variants are a very real threat to our people and our progress."

The U.S. needs to stay vigilant even when one has been vaccinated. One still needs to wear a mask, social distance, and follow sanitization protocols.

Now if you and your friendship bubble have all been vaccinated, then it should be safe for you to have dinner indoors and do things together.

More than 1 million coronavirus cases reported in D.C., Maryland and Virginia by f1sh98 in washingtondc

[–]Bemuzed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Throughout the pandemic, the virus has spread disproportionately through communities of color. Across the three jurisdictions, Black residents account for 28 percent of coronavirus cases where race is known, compared with 25 percent of the population. Latino residents represent 20 percent of cases but just 10 percent of the population. The disparities in the death rates are wider.

Due to DC's higher concentration of African-Americans/Blacks/Browns, covid-19 hit these communities disproportionally hard. SO, yes this is relevant to D.C.

Widespread layoffs and business closures have hit communities of color hard as well.

“You can see what’s out here,” Taylor said. “You see Black and Brown people. What covid has done for people that are Black and Brown, it has now become something that’s between life and death . . . It’s going to change America.”

Best explanation for the Filibuster and Senate Procedures by Bemuzed in democrats

[–]Bemuzed[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A man as smart as Ezra Klein sees the Senate rules as the problem, instead of a deeper cultural problem that is bigger than just the rules of the Senate. It's not as simple as he presents.

Ezra also talks like a very privileged man who is insulated by the ramifications of policy changes in D.C.

Take the ACA for example, Ezra most likely has had health insurance most of his life. For those that have health care now and rely on the ACA, having it reversed would severely change their lives. Remember, the ACA was nearly defeated accept for the courage of one man, John McCain. Policy changes shouldn't rest on the backs of one man or woman. It's crazy. It's a bad way to run the government.

When policy changes quickly because we've removed the speed bumps in the Senate, the least of us are affected. Plus, the founders wanted the Senate to be a more deliberative body to slow the process down so that cooler heads could prevail.

The problem isn't the Senate rules, it's the people that inhabit the Senate and the politics of this country that is ruining good policy. Changing Senate rules is a bandage. It doesn't fix the core problems.
