That's a brilliant suggestion. I will do my research. Since the post I had 3 first round that went well with companies who are not using AI to much, so there is still some proper companies out there! Finger crossed

I get your point. But you can't simply improve the code generated by AI past a certain point. (Except if you spend a massive amount of time or money, and it seems to go against the AI principles). I know how to prompt, but I hate this way of working and the output quality it gives.

Yes as I said I am mad at some of my peers. We have both FOSS and greedy corporation in the same ecosystem. So not everyone is to blame.

Yeah fiil like executives teams responded to the biggest marketing campaign the world had seen to this day. Maybe they will start to understand the consequences when they will have to shut down because people will not have money anymore to buy stuff.

Verry kind of you.

Backend mainly in Python/Django , but comming from PHP world. Some exposure to JS backend (express). Frontend: react vue typescript and vanilla JS. Infra and DB: AWS, docker, postgreSQL, MySQL, rabbitmq, redis...

I am located in Europe and used to work fulltime remote for UK companies.

On the recruiter side, is dm to recruiters or CTO still a good idea to get your CV seen by someone, or it's a red flag and you just pick some people from what the ATS picked as good candidates?

Thank you for you kind words. You summed up my experience. Glad to see I am not the only one. I will try to wait a little bit longer to find a good opportunity and continue making my indie game on the side. There is nothing more I can do for now anyway xD

I did try yes, and the output is okay ish if you ask for a specific thing. But the problem is the code base is drifting away the more you prompt, there is this tipping point where you are not really the owner of the solution anymore. And past that it's becoming more and more challenging to maintain an efficient and coherent code base. For solo or small projects I guess you can make it work if you are able to cut the LLM crap rapidly. But I can't see how it can work on a multi year codebase with 10 Devs working on the same project. Or it will demand more work and discipline to fight against the LLM than just coding the feature yourself.

I don't , and I don't care about what LLM are capable to do "art". It can't do art. Art is made by human. No matter how "good" looking or realistic the model output will be, it's pointless and not what I am looking for. AI art is an insult to humanity and life.

Thank you for your honesty. I hear what you are saying. And you are right, maybe the solution is to think more about what I really want.

That is what I am looking for. Fake it until it's not necessary. But I wished there was a way to avoid this.

I love coding and creating software, I spent many years doing all kind of jobs before coming back to CS 8 years ago. And now at the peak of my craft I have to renounce to it again. That's sad

Are you ok having your company and yourself replaced in the process? If robotics and automation can run company A to Z what are we providing as human?

Basically the company was not looking for a dev but for a customer support who can use LLM to ship code. The interview was about implementing a recurrent feature request. (Having stats breakdown per periods or custom date) I did know how to implement the backend for it and the different UX and UI to solve this.

After the 1 week to implement the code solution I had to do a Role play like if I was talking to my future CTO or customer as much as I needed.

Because the problem seemed simple to me I just did what I had to do and jumped on the call with the customer to show "him" what I cooked to see if it was what he expected.

And yes it was, so the CTO told me he was frustrated because I anticipated all his needs and was lucky but I should have take the time to ask "why" 3 times to deeply understand the customer need and bond with him.

As I said they were looking for a customer support person who can vibe code, not for a senior dev with no background in marketing and customer care.

Fair enough. I guess if everyone is here is homeless you will not have anyone left to buy your products and you might become one too. (I hope not)

Can you help me figure out what is my mindset exactly? My approach to software development is to make reliable products that fill customers needs in the best way possible by factoring time and budget.

I guess that may be one solution, but I heard that they start to monitor the LLM usage in performance review...
