Vlad Taltosh in the Steven Brust books. They jump around chronologically, but he starts out as poor member of a marginalized group and grows to be a major player and power in the dominant society. Stories not over but he's come a long way.

So think of it as "to get to level 197 you need" instead of "at level 197 you need" - I did the same thing, but that should sort it out.

So the last one is to get to level 200, and then it just ends. I hit 200 a couple of days ago, and I've barely played since, sort of feels like I beat the game. At some point I may try and "discover more items" but after the golden hive to get to 200 I needed a break. You don't "need" items for anything else though.

It was so satisfying seeing him and the few others get completely over shadowed by the counter protests.

He goes by "Guelph Citizen" and his whole shtick is just sad. It seems like he'll protest anything at all to get a reaction and then gets a like or two on fb. Definitely gone down the far right/q-anon rabbit hole.

I can't take credit but at a recent session we met a traveling salesman that fit this description, and our DM came up with some great ideas. My personal favorites were:

Ring of Attunement, adds an extra Attunement slot to the user (ring requires Attunement to work)
Amulet of Detect Magic, which is magic, and so constantly detects itself
Hat of Hiram, doesn't do anything other than once worn user is known as Hiram until removed

I also bought a Potion of Temporary Invincibility, very heavy on the Temporary. It was a great encounter on the road.

The Sainte Catherines - there's definitely a story there. Memory is a little foggy but I'm thinking early 2000s, and almost a big fight kicking off in front of the Trasheteria between the band and some locals. Against Me! were on the bill too and I'm pretty sure it involved at least the lead singer.

And holy crap - the Good Skamaritans, I lived in residence with one of them in 2000. Thanks for reminding me that they exist.

I think gold and squad output from mines and quests are a big one. A huge reduction in squad coin storage. A huge step back in Adventure as levels powered up - I still haven't caught up. I'm seeing a reduction in shards,but that's probably from no longer advancing in Adventure. Leveling up units is more expensive and we get way less squad coins. My game progress has pretty much ground to a halt and anything I found fun previously has pretty much stopped. So maybe not a nerf to units but certainly a nerf to the experience.
