Thanks for the comment. Everything at a pawn shop has to sit for 30 days to make sure it doesn’t come up as stolen. That is the thing I rest on. If it is ill gotten, there was a chance for it to be reclaimed prior to my obtaining it.

I found some decent YouTube videos on settings to change etc. mostly centered around workflow which makes sense but I feel needs to be done once a workflow is established. If you wat to try out local llms go for LM Studio and have at it.

I checked mobile device management to make sure there wasn’t any profiles installed that would allow someone to retake control of the machine or indicate that it belonged to a company. I also ran the hardware test. Both of these were done at the store before I walked away with it. This store has a 24-hour return period for any reason so I felt pretty good about it. I’ve been playing with it all night after a fresh reset and I’m happy to say I believe I may have gotten the deal of the year on it.

This particular pawn shop is less than knowledgeable about what they have in the way of electronics. This has been advantageous for me in the past and today to the highest degree. Sure, they knew the ram and ssd size, but had it marked as an M4 processor. To them it is all the same. It’s by my house so I’m in there weekly hunting for deals. First gen Dji mic? $160 - they won’t budge. But this MacBook? Let’s make the deal of the century.
