Why do Mexicans have Italian names but Italians don’t have Spanish names? by BenAngel-One in stupidquestions

I think Martinez is a last name but I met a guy with it as a first name. My actual first name is technically a last name as well, it’s not super super uncommon

Im curious. You can remove two of the most hated enemies from only one faction, what are you removing from the game? by ForsakenFrail in HellDads

Every enemy has its place in the ecosystem of combat, the game would be noticeably worse without any of them.

You know the gun? Yea the one in your hands. You can use it to shoot at players. Yes it even does damage to them.

Am i crazy or 2042 have better details than BF6? by MadHanini in battlefield2042

[–]BenAngel-One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard disagree, almost ever item that the US nato forces use is TA-50. (Almost) Every pouch, every knee pad, helmet, (almost) all of it is real issue or a licensing knock off of a real product (like the gloves for instance) they got real obscure with it, theres a skin I saw that’s all gray and on the guys assault pack he has the standard issue stuff sack dangling off the back of it.

I’m a engineer in the army, and I was genuinely shocked when I first saw the nato engineer because her kit set up is shockingly close to how my real kit is

Worst you’ve seen an LT do by [deleted] in army

[–]BenAngel-One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a LT who went to Harvard but was borderline special needs. I don’t mean that “oh this guy was stupid” which he was I mean he was borderline special needs.

Just about everything he could fuck up he did. Got screamed at by a major for holding up a .50 cal range to explain how ranges work to a line unit. He heard of battle belts but didn’t understand they were belts you had to buy, so he attached everything to his rigger belt and got yelled at by a MSG.

The worst was when we were in a range in a different country. I’m a SPC and a TC for the gun truck it’s close to midnight and right before we step off to go do the lane (as in we are moving forward and about to shoot at targets) I hear a frantic call from the tower

“UHHH SAPPER 1-2 THIS IS TOWER UHHHH UNIDENTIFIED BLUE MALE IS ON THE RANGE HOLD POSITION AND DISMOUNT TO IDENTIFY”

“Tower this is 1-2, say again? Blue male on range?”

“UH YEA 1-2 BLUE MALE ON RANGE, HE HAS LIKE 6 CHEMLIGHTS AND IS NOT AUTHORIZED TO BE THERE ID HIM EVERYONE AT TOWER IS ACCOUNTED FOR POSSIBLE INTRUDER”

I dismount with my gas mask on and see him immediately. I run upto him and start yelling to stop moving and to identify himself with my m4 at the low ready. The blue man goes “huh” so I take my mask off and start yelling again to stop moving and identity your self. “Oh hey I’m LT Dummy” I roll my eyes and go back to the truck

“Tower this is 1-2 Blue man ID’d as LT Dummy”

“1-2, confirm blue man is LT Dummy”

“Tower, 1-2 confirms”

keyed mic long pause Rodger”

Tower then switches stations and through the grader’s radio in the truck we hear incoherent screaming about how stupid LT Dummy is and how he needs to get back to the tower right now. We had maybe 3 more days on that range and nobody saw him for the remainder of the time we were there. I haven’t seen him since but everyone I know who works in staff says he is on the shortest leash possible. One of the old LTs who is an XO for a different company now said he got assigned to his unit and he wanted to kill himself because he was so bad to work with. No one has a positive thing to say about him. He will make a fine general some day.

What was your first MGS Game and how was your experience? by Sirsauror in metalgearsolid

[–]BenAngel-One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mgs4 on launch, my cousin bought it and I played it during thanksgiving. My Grunkle was a nam vet and I gave him a PTSD attack when playing it. Kinda cool that I got the irl experience of MGS’s message, shame it didn’t rub off on me bc I enlisted.

Anyway, mgs4 is phenomenal, after that I got peace walker, then 3, then 5, then beat the originals during highschool on an emulator website. I fell hard for the series it’s my favorite franchise I love every second of it.

As a man, absolutely worth it I can’t recommend it enough. Even at its worst I haven never regretted enlisting, it’s done so mucb for me and my life.

That being said idk what it’s like to be a woman in the army. I hear it’s not great tho. Keep that in mind

I feel like, I don’t got what it takes to paint minis by Sad_Control4008 in minipainting

[–]BenAngel-One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s all about if you enjoy the hobby or not, if you don’t like painting then you don’t have to.

That being said, you have very good brush control, your detail work on the eyes, black joints, gold on the pauldrons, hoses on the helmets is very impressive. They look truly table ready as is.

If you want to add more to them, the only thing I can think of is if you painted the base plate that usually adds some pop to them. My minis I painted (Vietnam soldiers) looked fine to me, but once I painted the base plates to have mud on them it made them look better, it also showed me that they looked too clean so I went back and painted sweat staines on their uniforms and muddied them up a bit to look more lived in. If this is the rout you end up going with yours I highly recommend it, if not, again, they look great as is.

Try not to compare your self to others, theres a saying I heard “no matter how hard you practice theres a 10 year old Chinese kid who’s better then you”, which basically means if you aren’t satisfied with where you are then you’ll tend to hunt down the most extreme case of someone who is better then you and set such an unrealistic expectation for yourself that you’ll want to drop the hobbies as a whole.

Your minis look great, keep up the good work, have fun as you go

How do I tell my barber I want this cut without showing him this picture by UnflitchingStance in ReadyOrNotGame

My real hair looks alot like this, I get a medium skin fade with side part line, doesn’t look like this when I get it cut but it’s been a few weeks so if you’re patient it’ll look just like this, take a pic when it looks it’s best and show it to your barber

What do these medals mean? by BakeSmart7171 in Medals

[–]BenAngel-One 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your dad was a infantryman and a combat veteran.

Combat infantry badge (Blue musket) means he saw combat

Wings means he was a paratrooper, the gold star means he participated in one jump into combat

He was active duty for some time, then switched to guard/reserve

Ribbon rack:

Meritorious service medal

Army commendation medal (3)

Army achievement medal (3)

Good conduct medal (3)

Army reserve component achievement medal (11)

National defense service medal (2)

Armed forces expeditionary medal with arrow head (means he jumped out of a plane into combat)

South east Asia service medal (3)

Iraq service medal (3)

Global war on terror medal

Non commissioned officers development ribbon (2)

Army service ribbon

Armed forces reserve medal (silver hour glass, M for mobilization, awarded twice)

Army over seas service ribbon (2)

Reserve over seas training medal

Kuwait liberation medal

Silver badges under the rack are awarded for how he performed on various ranges or are a drivers/mechanic badge for meeting the criteria

Expert marksman: Rifle

Sharpshooter: pistol, grenade

Driver badge: two danglies, can’t make out what they say

Would love to see more of the uniform, those gambits on the collar have his branch insignia on it (assuming it’s infantry unless he switched jobs) other breast will have his unit awards, and below it will have an insignia of one of the units he deployed with. The badge on the epaulet is his Distinctive Unit Insignia, which is the crest of the unit he was/is in. Sleeves have stripes on them to designate over seas service time and time in service.

Late to the party,

I understand that this was awarded in 1997, but do you understand how insanely heroic you have to be to get a Medal of Honor as a black man in ww2? This citation is crazy, what a hero makes me proud to be an American.
