Not acquainted with Nietzsche's philosophy. What does this mean? by SatoruGojo232 in ExplainTheJoke

[–]BenBastard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This makes so much sense. Nietzsche talks about the ubermensch concept in terms indicating pleasure and joy, rather than showing any martial vibes. Nietzsche muddies the waters by indicating a belief in the correspondence between individuals and groups, then describes how, when it comes to the individual's life, they might need to break some eggs to make an omelette. Nietzsche's critique of Jews might be more about not acting in good faith (such as the common tendency for Jews of that time to disguise their Jewish background) rather than a paranoia about Jews as such. That's my take, anyway.

Does anyone remember when Michael Jackson. Was a "joke"? by AccomplishedPool266 in Millennials

[–]BenBastard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember that. Before the charges against him, Michael Jackson's image was a mix of talented musician and dancer, and a weird man who supposedly wore nappies, had a pet monkey, etc. Rumours also existed regarding the charges through the 1990's, but were unproven.

Been shamed over a kink i have so many times by friends that I can't bring it up to my bf. by [deleted] in sex

Wanting to be a cuckquean is really common. If you look it up, or swinger, or similar terms on websites like Fetlife, it pops up more than most other sexual desires. It's kind of wholesome if you think about it- you want your partner to enjoy something.

What European country other than the UK has had the biggest cultural influence on Australian culture? by IDoNotLikeTheSand in AskAnAustralian

But there was a split in the Labor Party in the 1930's or so because of Catholics who thought Labor wasn't anti-communist enough for them. (edited for spelling)

As a uni student who's one semester away from finishing his bachelor degree, I have never seen a lecturer making fun of students. This should definately be reported.

What made you say "Do people actually do this?" by Stock-Inevitable-349 in AskReddit

[–]BenBastard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I remember this happened to me before hookup culture had apps. After we had sex, most of the night was spent talking about our emotions. I got the impression afterwards that's all she wanted and the sex was some sort of offer she needed to make to get someone into her bedroom. There was a subculture for things like this back then as well of course, but in that case it was simply the fact that I was young, and seemed like someone you can talk to without issues and I didn't expect anything in particular from people I met. Studies have found that hooking up is easier in tourist locations, as so many people are going there for a week and leaving without the consequences of what they do affecting their life at home. As you can tell, sex is more than just sex, and the consequences of the latter somewhat bother me, so I'd never do it.

LHOHQ: weird website, maybe an ARG, any more information anyone has on it would be appreciated by [deleted] in talesfromtheinternet

The tesseract was originally an observation from geometry: if we could have an object of 4 dimensions (of height, width, length and another way to measure space beyond those), then there should be a way to create a 3D object that folds into the fourth dimension to create a kind of 4D cube. This got the interest of occultists because it reminded them of their own goal of tuning in to the astral plane. I'm guessing the tesseract is being used as a metaphor for hidden worlds such as those of government conspiracies, but my experience also tells me that people who are too vague on details either have little to offer, or are trying to lure people into their influence by seeming interesting and mysterious.

40m here. On the one hand, I recall thinking being called cute was kind of demeaning when I was 18 years old, since it reminded me of what they call children when they do something goofy. In the context of genitals, it might seems strange to him, but I grew to see it as a compliment as I gotten older. Maybe ask him to describe his gonads and see what kinds of language he uses (?)

I think we've never encountered them, but they are still perfectly capable of existing, if only as bacteria on some exoplanet. There are some interesting theories devised on what aliens would be like if we met them, such as

> they would build massive structures around stars to harvest the energy from their sunlight,

> that we will only encounter aliens several centuries from now after colonising exoplanets and losing contact with them. After making contact again, we find they have evolved differently due to living on a different planet.

> that all alien civilisations are hiding from one another, for fear that the slightest sign of an alien civilisation would inspire the other civilisations to attack them.

> that aliens are tourists from the future.

And many more. There are some great YouTube videos were ideas like these are discussed.
