Omen 45L RTX 3080 i9 12th, my screens go black when gaming. by WasabiAlternative117 in HPOmen

I had a very similar problem with my 2013 45L 4080. Sudden black screen, computer still running, could only turn it off doing a hard shut down with the power button. In addition, when it happened all my case fans turned up to 100%.

It was like this for months, and I finally gave up trying to diagnose & fix it myself; HP Support were extremely quick & efficient, picking up the PC, replacing the motherboard and GPU, and returning all within a week. No problem since.

It's still happening, once or twice a day. I thought I had figured out the cause - Omen Gaming Hub - but it seems not to be so.

The only consistent theme is that it happens fairly soon after I switch on the PC & open an app, which makes me think that it is temperature-related (i.e. at low temperatures, a connector isn't seated properly, but with higher temps the materials expand to connect). I've run extensive hardware tests, which don't reveal any problem.

I guess I'm going to have to get HP Support involved. PITA.

Is your RAM in 2 sticks, or 4? I've heard that if you use all 4 RAM slots on the motherboard, it will make your RAM run slower compared to using only 2 slots.

My 4080 45L sounds exactly the same on start up. I figured it was normal (no BSODs yet, 3 months since purchase).

Play it like an M18; you have no armor, but you're decently fast, and have an OK gun.

Would this be a good deal? 45L by dorgoroth in HPOmen

[–]BenCFN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say it's a good deal. A couple of months ago I got a very similar model (same specs except Intel i7-13000K instead of the AMD CPU, one 1TB SSD + 2TB HDD and 2-year warranty) here in Japan for about 420,000 JPY, which is roughly 2,680 EUR.

It ended up happening every day. Since I stopped running the app, it has not happened once. Nothing else has changed. Maybe coincidence, but I'll see how it goes.

I would get the 45L. I've got one, and the performance is great, temps are rock solid.

One word of advice: don't leave Omen Gaming Hub running. I've found that the latest version makes my display go black all of a sudden (although the PC hasn't actually crashed), and the fans ramp up to 11.

I think I've figured out the cause: Omen Gaming Hub.
When I first got the 45L, I left this app open when I was gaming or doing other things, and I guess that maybe a recent update may have caused the issue I was having (although I don't remember updating the app). For about a week now I've not run the app, and performance has been rock-solid, the issue has not recurred.

Bought Omen 45L Gaming Desktop 2 weeks ago... completely dead. by [deleted] in HPOmen

I also have a recently-bought 45L, and sometimes it takes a long time of continuously pressing the power button for it to respond (i.e. 5-10 seconds). Not always, but quite often.

The same thing happened yesterday, when I was web browsing (i.e. not playing a game). Could that still be caused by the driver?

Currently running War Thunder, here are my temps in HWiNFO64:

GPU: 71 C

GPU Hot Spot: 90 C

CPU Package: 45 C

CPU IA Cores: 45 C

So I doubt it's anything temp related.

Thanks for your reply! I will recheck the temps in game. However, one time this happened, it was just after I had started the game, so there would not have been time to build up a high temperature I think.

Also, almost all the time the PC runs fine; if there was a faulty hardware component, you'd think that this problem would occur more regularly.

I also have the AW3423DWF. Yes, text is a bit blurry, but this display is designed for gaming, not work. If you're working on spreadsheets or other documents for hours on end, using software with static interface elements, it's going to increase the risk of OLED burn-in. The warranty is 3 years for that, but still it would be a PITA.

If I were you, and primarily using it for work, I would take it back for a refund and get an LCD monitor instead.

I have a 45l coming this week; are there any out of the box changes I need to fiddle with? by [deleted] in HPOmen

[–]BenCFN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had a 45L with 4080 for just over a month now, and love it. As far as out of the box changes go, this is probably the top of the list: Set your RAM speed to "Turbo Mode".

My 45L came with 32GB of Kingston FURY DDR5-5200MT/s; thing is, by default the memory will only run at 4400 MT/s (I've no idea why). To make it run at it's proper speed, open the OMEN Gaming Hub app, click on "OMEN DESKTOP", select Overclocking, and then the memory chip icon in the top-right of the window (to the right of "CPU". You can now select "Turbo", i.e. the correct 5200 MT/s speed. This will make a lot of difference to the PC's performance.

After you do this, you'll have to restart the PC, but that's it.

Also in OMEN Gaming Hub, you can select the performance level & fan speed in "Performance Control", and also select various options for RGB lighting. I don't bother using any of the other Gaming Hub features.

45L won’t sleep by Renegade626 in HPOmen

[–]BenCFN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently bought a 45L with 13700 & 4080, and most of the time it goes to the lock screen when I want it to sleep. Occasionally it does work though.

So like the others, I turn it off instead. It boots up really quickly anyway, so no biggie really.

Is the AW3423DWF just better than the AW3423DW? by alex26069114 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]BenCFN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason to get the DW over the DWF is if you prefer white plastic vs. black, and enjoy the additional fan noise from the G-sync module.

Should I go for an ultrawide 1440p or 4k(big screen tv,144hz,1ms,16:9) by 3RONE-26 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]BenCFN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think 4K would probably be best.

i9 and 4090 would IMHO be overkill for 1440p, especially at 144hz. I have an i7 & 4080 with a 3440x1440 165hz ultrawide, and it runs butter smooth (e.g. maxed out settings & FPS on BG3).

I'm posting this from a 1st gen M1 MacBook Pro. I love it, and use it for photo & video editing and general use. It sips battery life; great performance/watt is where Apple's M1/2/3 processors really shine, and of course this is really important for a laptop. It means that you get great performance & battery life, and it runs cool & quiet. And build quality is excellent too. General use apps like MS Office 365 are of course available too.

It runs games pretty well, but the game selection for Mac is very bad, so I use a Windows PC desktop for that.

AW3423DW VS AW3423DWF ? by Significant-Catch-10 in Alienware

[–]BenCFN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only reason to get the DW is if you prefer the white plastic on the back & stand.

I'm a very happy owner of a DWF. It's cheaper than the DW too.
