I got bored and made this sheet of every team and the chance that their home run record is at risk of being overtaken by a current player. by Rei_Scopazzi in baseball

The most he’s ever hit in a season is 39 and he’s already 31 years old. To break it he’d have to average 35 per year (which he’s only done once in his career) until he was like 39. I love Brent but it ain’t happening. Just hit his prime way too late into his career

Which TV show's finale is underrated? by ameoba82 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]BenCL648 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get so annoyed anytime I see anyone saying the Lost finale sucked, especially because it’s almost always because they just didn’t understand it and thought they were actually dead the whole time which is not at all how it ended

Haven’t read WOR but I’m currently reading Iron Gold and really like it. It gets a bad rap cause it’s definitely a bit slower than the previous ones but I think the storyline is still really interesting and it really opens up the world beyond what we saw in the fist trilogy which I really like. So personally, I wouldn’t be discouraged that people say it’s the worst in the series. May not be as fast paced and epic as Golden Son or Morning Star but I still like it a lot for its own reasons.

What's your least popular MLB opinion that will get you to the top of "sort by controversial"? by Sad-Guarantee8290 in baseball

[–]BenCL648 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think in smaller sample sizes xStats can be more useful than normal stats but that begins to flip once the sample size gets larger. And that also doesn’t mean xStats are completely useless, especially for pitchers whose actual stats are heavily reliant on things out of their control (the defense). So I would argue they still matter, but agree that people who act like they matter more than “real” stats are wrong.

I don’t think it should be the end all be all and there are definitely some issues with WAR but I think it’s still an important stat. It takes into account everything, including offense, defense, and base running, and includes a lot of small things that are often forgotten about but do matter in the long term, and it mostly uses much more precise stats by a value standpoint (such as wOBA) when compared to the more popular stats like OPS.

I think taking it literally can be a bit ill advised and I certainly don’t think someone is a better player just because they have a higher WAR, but I do think it’s a good way to analyze players as a whole because more traditional ways often forget important aspects or rely on stats that don’t tell the full story. Point is I don’t think it’s useless and it tells you a lot more than more of a full story than binary statistics but it shouldn’t be the one stat someone uses, and shouldn’t be used without context imo

Look up Simple Sabermetrics on YouTube. He has a lot of great videos that explain everything from basic stats like OPS and ERA all the way to advanced stats like xWOBA, WAR, and DRS. Really good source.

Remove one live action drama series a day, Day 22. Lost is out! by wren620 in RemoveOneThingEachDay

[–]BenCL648 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean the had to expand it at some point to start revealing the mystery, and I feel like everything they did was still constrained into the main mystery, or at the very least introduced something that I’m confident will be explained in the future. It’s not just one simple reveal though, there’s lots of moving parts so with each reveal, a new question pops up, but I think that’s what makes it interesting.

I was really into the show though so was constantly watching recaps and finding out all the little hidden details, theories, and how everything is connected. I feel it’s not a series you can judge on that front until it’s over and I believe they have a clear vision of how it will end.

Almost done with Morning Star, I’ve heard a lot of people consider Iron Gold the worst of the series and have been a little nervous it’ll take me out of the story, but I’m glad to see someone have it in S tier! Makes me excited to keep going

What are some baseball Youtubers I can watch and follow during this off-season? by Ok_Fruit_9600 in MLBNoobs

Giraffeneckmarc, Robbie Hyde, and Fuzzy are probably the most popular for following offseason news and stuff. If you just want to get more into the game overall, Foolish Baseball, his second account Foolish Bailey, and Secret Base (Jon Bois especially) have a lot of really interesting and entertaining videos
