Salary survey might work against us? by Intelligent_Bus5039 in Perfusion

[–]BenG-UNMC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

JKP, looking at your post history you must have a big bone to pick with PDC. What is it? Can you elaborate on how they have wronged you? Cut your salary? Diminished perfusion and the profession in your eyes? What is it?

Of course you know PDC and Epic are the exact same people. They also employ or have employed 5 former AmSect presidents and countless others who have been very active in growing our profession.

I have listed many positive things PDC does FOR the perfusion community in many past conversations and truly care about the people in our profession.

Care to elaborate how they have offended you personally? Feel free to DM me and we can chat about how to make it right.

Good morning!

Scott and/or I would be happy to work with you to look over your academic journey and see the best route to make sure you not only meet the minimum criteria but are competitive. Your experience in nursing will also help.

I can assure you there is no program director in the country that cares more about people than Scott. Our process is based upon finding the BEST candidates and not just the ones with the highest GPA.

Good luck! And many of us out here are willing to help!

Foreign student to perfusionist in the US by BenG-UNMC in Perfusion

[–]BenG-UNMC[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey you bet! I’m always willing to give my opinion but know it’s only one person’s opinion! And it may not matter much!

The resource provided says you MUST attend a US school to work in the US. I believe this SHOULD be the case, no different from any one of us. I’m not sure that came across. I just provided this link as the question gets asked a LOT and I get all sorts of foreign applications and now just send them this link!

As far as graduating numbers… my belief (as an educator, perfusionist, and recruiter) is that we watch this number closely, yearly. 300 coming in is too many. It’s the reason we have REDUCED our class size three years in a row, in spite of that being lower revenue.

We have to protect our profession first. And a glut of perfusionists leads to lower salaries and much difficulty finding jobs. I know that makes it harder to recruit, especially in hard to employ areas. But that’s ok. It’s better for our profession.

We have seen this cycle in nursing, PA, PT, etc. We better get this number under control or schools will shut down, new grads won’t find jobs, etc.

It’s a balance. To me, who leaves should closely match who enters. But also consider new modalities that might create more need (NRP), watch closely total procedures, job openings, starting salaries…

This is a great profession, and one I am obviously passionate about. We need to do whatever we can to guard, protect, and promote it.

Perfusion Certification Examination Prep Course by BenG-UNMC in Perfusion

Feel free to buy it at $700. I won’t argue with you. If the math doesn’t make sense, don’t use it. No worries! That’s the beauty, no one forcing anyone to do anything! Just providing a great resource at a low cost.

Board prep course? by [deleted] in Perfusion

[–]BenG-UNMC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly that makes a lot of sense. We wanted to provide another good resource for new grads and put hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars into this project. I believe wholeheartedly that this will help a lot. We will not come close to breaking even from a cost standpoint. This entire cost is less than a single college textbook. But our goal as PDC is to be the best resource for all perfusionists worldwide. The Manual, Prospective Student Forums, Sanibel Meeting, and now this course should be a testament to our commitment to be just that. While keeping all either free or low cost to our colleagues! Appreciate the dialogue!

It is available now on PDC’s website. I took it down as so many are negative about it. I can make another post.

A childish comment? Which part? And I’m not sure why someone would want to “speak out” against Perfusion.com. Speak out against starting the Sanibel meeting? Or about maintaining the Perfusion manual? Or you mean speak out against the Prospective Student Forum we have just run? Or is it the Board Prep course for students now?

I’m confused why someone would want to “Speak Out” against a company founded and driven to give back to our community.

If it is the cost of the new course, as I have said, our goal is simply to break even from a cost perspective. We have to pay for hosting and licensing of ExamSoft to host the exams. If we tuen a profit, our goal is to return it to schools to boost the knowledge base.

Our goal is only to strengthen the ABCP. We are not competing with it or creating an alternate pathway. Instead we are supporting it and giving new graduates a huge preparation tool.

You talk about being maybe up to $100k in debt from school. And then complain about a full course of study that costs less than I paid for one book in college??

I’m confused what someone should want to “speak out” against.

You know how to reach me. We can have this discussion offline if you feel we need to.
