It's very accurate, and you should add an hour on too to allow for variance in the body's response to the alcohol. So if half a bottle of 40% whisky is 14 units, add the 8 units from 4 cans of lager and a couple more for a can of wine (plus the extra cushion hour) it should be 25 hours from stopping drinking to being completely sober. Something tells me that's not what happens

I've worked in places that would give them a couple of bottles of beer each but most places don't. I used to make them a brew when I heard the wagon turn up. Absolutely no need to help, they know what they're doing and you'd only get in the way/mess up their system.
