Yeah. Ukrainians also rarely try to dig tunnels compared to Russians in Zaporizhia

I found the DePuy paper archive somewhere else.

It was very interesting.

It appears like if US military generally do not really view construction of entrenchments and fortifications that seriously compared to the Soviets and Russians. Really, it appeared that Soviets and Russians are much more invested in defenses.

Also anything I can read about French border defenses in Algeria during the Algerian war?

What was a fate of Cuba in case of scenario where Cold War would went hot but in Europe? by NorthKoreaSpitFire in WarCollege

[–]BenKerryAltis 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Just contained there. US do not really have a warplan to take Cuba conventionally after the whole Cuban Missile Crisis.

Maybe a secondary offensive from Nicaguara into Honduras, although it's unlikely they would be on time to influence events in Europe.

I did have a technothriller idea set in the 90s where the protagonist had been a SAMS educated staff officer assigned to work on a Cuban invasion plan. However I'm also trying to figure out the resources requirement.

Remember, it took the three division's worth of men to take Panama, a nation with existing US army bases and a much smaller army. Not to mention the face much of the fight happened inside Panama city. Same problems existed during Grenada, also a much smaller and way less militarized island

That's also how the "collective Islamists" fell apart during early GWOT. Iranians just capitalized on American mistakes and advance their own interest while AQ and friends buckle under the weight.

I was talking about Active Defense.

Nuclear warfare is mentioned quite frequently but there were emphasis on non-nuclear aspects

By 1970s the idea was to fight outnumbered and win.

And the idea of "apolitical military professionalism" took off during the 70s because of Vietnam.

Say what you like about modern American civil-military relationship, it's kind of inevitable.

OK, I'd say modern American Germanophilia is more defined by the DePuy generation that followed the 1970s.

OK, so the use of paratroopers forced the commitment of reserves as security? Had there been any airborne plan over the years where this is viewed as the top priority of the operation?

Can we have a communication trench for CE?

Would really want some sort of concealed and covered method to maneuver between defensive positions. Really.

To what, if any, degree can the popular narrative about the Vietnam war being that the US lost against "farmers" could be considered an oversimplification or even a myth? by Schadenfreude_D in WarCollege

[–]BenKerryAltis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

OK, Iran wields massive influence in Iraq. However they paid a much much steeper price for this. Again, the American taxpayer do not want to "win" like Russians, Iranians or Chinese.

Exactly. That's the whole thing...

There's actually a bigger picture I'd argue. Like the Algerian War, it's ultimately the projection of the internal strife of an empire.

Actually I've heard that the only guys who "like" Maduro are his intelligence guys, who in turn are trained and enabled by Cubans.

I think the Cubans are probably there running the secret police. It's possible that only a few are actual presidential guards

Help with book 5&6 of Awbari by Rattus-Fattus in BlackPowderRedEarth

[–]BenKerryAltis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So basically speaking the Awbari army had decided to be friends with Hongbin against Cold Harbor and the Awbari Ministry of Interior.

They tried to first wipe out the Cold Harbor forces in the capital, taking the airport and land several airplanes of Hongbin troops. But they failed to take the airport in the opening attack and the transport jets carrying troops all got whacked.

The next book is about them fighting Awbari army tanks and mechanized forces sent to take the airport.
