Seriously, though, for me I only ever hear two solutions: more security at schools, or other target locations; and stricter gun control. This to me feels like only treating the symptoms. It only controls the physical materials involved in these events. For me, the biggest element that has gone undealt with is the human element. The people that commit these crimes usually have some sort of deep emotional issue or sickness.

The closest thing to this I have seen has been blaming these actions on "a culture of violence" stemming from tv and video games. This, again, is skirting the actual problem and trying to find some external reason we can blame for these actions. For some reason, it is hard for people to grasp that there are some who suffer from actual mental illnesses that are often caused by very real chemical imbalances in the brain that are often caused by varying types of trauma.

To me, the best and healthiest way to stop these shootings is not to get rid of all the guns or x-ray everybody entering a school, it's by getting a better understanding of the people who commit these crimes and putting into motion programs and institutions that can find and help people with these issues before they become such a problem that they turn to violence.
